MarcDeSoto Posted March 18, 2023 Report Posted March 18, 2023 (edited) A seller on the DeSoto club site says his E7L4 Carter B&B carb. fits all 6 cylinder cars with a semi auto trans, from 1948 -1954. Would for example an E7L4 carburetor fit on my 48 DeSoto and vice versa? I think an E7L4 carb. is for a 1950 Chrysler six. Edited March 18, 2023 by MarcDeSoto Quote
Frank Gooz Posted March 18, 2023 Report Posted March 18, 2023 Marc i think some will interchange and I say that based on the wiring. I will try this come summer on my 1950 Dodge, I will in stall the carburetor off my 1948 Desoto. A Stromberg v/s a Carter. 1 Quote
MarcDeSoto Posted March 18, 2023 Author Report Posted March 18, 2023 I think it's your Dodge that has a Stromberg. I think Dodge was the only MoPar that used Strombergs as well as Carter B&B's. Quote
normanpitkin Posted March 18, 2023 Report Posted March 18, 2023 Chrysler New Yorkers in 46 had Stromberg AAV S2 carb ,until the accounts department discovered there was a cheaper alternative! 1 Quote
MarcDeSoto Posted March 18, 2023 Author Report Posted March 18, 2023 I forgot about that. Those STrombergs for the Chrysler straight eights are works of art! Quote
Frank Gooz Posted March 19, 2023 Report Posted March 19, 2023 Sorry Marc I was referring to the fact that if any of the cars with a semi automatic/ fluid drive that are wired the same way, The carburetors mat be a useable replacement in a pinch. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted March 19, 2023 Report Posted March 19, 2023 A couple small jet size differences...but will swap. 1 Quote

Looks like a good book to have in ones library. What years does it cover? How many different cars? I can make out most of the cars listed in the image. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted March 20, 2023 Report Posted March 20, 2023 That is a Carter Carburetor Parts and Service book. This one covers from 1933 to 1953. Most all cars and trucks. 1 Quote
