I've had 4 different 218/230s in the last couple of years.  50/51 and 56 years.  Only the 56 Plymouth had the dampener type pulley.  The others are one piece, no dampener ring at all.  They fit, but don't have that function.

"modern" improvement? Needed more as HP increased?

The 230 I have from a 52 Dodge has a damper, the 51 218 in the Plymouth does not, I think it's a 230 thing?  Dodge was a little bit more upscale than a Plymouth so it had stuff like that, lol.

I think you're right about the 230.  Longer stroke  = more torsional stresses.

Well, I think I got  lucky.  I won't know until I inspect it. I found an eBay auction 1955 1956 1957 1958 1959 1960? PLYMOUTH DODGE 6 CY VIBRATION DAMPER PULLEY It appears to be riveted like the original.

I won the auction with a high bid (the only bid) of $9.00!

Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket next?
