colbs Posted January 29, 2023 Report Posted January 29, 2023 My 1948 royal I bought in 2019 didn't have the temp control cable hooked up nor was the proper shutoff on the motor, I bought the one that I believe goes to the car (single not the rabbit ear) I do have 2 blower fans but only 1 is hooked up as far as I can tell. It's the passenger side blower but the shutoff is a plumbing fitting that twists down I have one hose coming out of the shutoff, 1 out of the water pump, 2 separate hoses going into the firewall and I have 2 Brass Tees connecting all the hoses together I would love to properly hook everything back together and have it original looking. I will post pictures tomorrow as I wasn't able to get pictures tonight before it got dark and I know it'll be easier to see my confusion with pictures but any information in the mean time is appreciated! colbs Posted February 1, 2023 Author Report Posted February 1, 2023 Ok! So I was finally able to catch a few seconds to get pictures again any information about how to hook this up will be greatly appreciated! I took Overalls and close ups, the rubber hoses are on the passenger side and the open ones are on the driver side, I also included the picture of the temp control I bought, and if the hoses need to be ran different I can do that as well! joecoozie Posted February 1, 2023 Report Posted February 1, 2023 Looks like you may have dual heaters. If so you will need the "rabbit ear(s)" control valve. I had one but sold it and IF you can find one you will pay big $$$$$ The valve you have is for a single heater. 1 Quote
OldPly Posted February 1, 2023 Report Posted February 1, 2023 To me it looks like you have too many hoses and Ts and the two hoses hooked together (bypass??) From motor to one side of heater and one from heater back to motor (for one heater) for two heaters out of the Y two outlets one hose to each heater then from heater to a Y and back to motor Sorry cannot help with cable hookup The driver side one that's not hooked up I would check for leaks just a small pin hole will frost up your windows and give you a smell of presstone That could be why yours is not hooked up (past leek) 1 Quote
colbs Posted February 1, 2023 Author Report Posted February 1, 2023 @joecoozie I do have 2 blower motors but I just went with the single shutoff for the time being (AMS Obsolete does have a Rabbit ear) but Im not currently set up to hook the other up at this point and Im not going to be driving it in cold weather at least not for a while until I have all the kinks worked out. @Karey I thought the same thing about too many hoses and I will check the driver side for leaks especially before I go all the way with hooking up that side, I was also flabbergasted at the fact that someone put a plumbing shutoff in it (thats some backwoods engineering I would do if Im being honest) any tips on how to get the driver side blower out and check it for leaks that way, I also know it doesnt have a wire on that motor either and the Harness I bought from RI Wiring only came with 1 wire for the passenger side, do the motors both go to the switch or does one wire go to the passenger side blower and the a jumper lead connects both blowers? Thanks for all the input thus far! This is a great community and a plethora of information here!! Quote
joecoozie Posted February 1, 2023 Report Posted February 1, 2023 "someone put a plumbing shutoff in it (thats some backwoods engineering I would do if Im being honest) " That shutoff valve is a factory part. I have seen original cars with that same valve. Question: Do you have a cable coming from the "TEMP" control knob on the dash? You will need that to control your new valve. Quote
colbs Posted February 1, 2023 Author Report Posted February 1, 2023 Then I stand corrected! I do still have the temp control cable, which was why I assumed (which I never do bc of what you do when you assume) that what I had on there wasnt factory plus the number of hoses and tees that is there currently. Also the end of the cable still has the screw down holder on it from where it broke off the OEM part Quote
DonaldSmith Posted February 1, 2023 Report Posted February 1, 2023 Single valve, tee. Red hose, supply. Black hose and steel tube, return. The vintage valve didn't work well, but I dissembled it and got it freed up. 1 Quote
colbs Posted February 1, 2023 Author Report Posted February 1, 2023 @DonaldSmith are you runing both heaters off the single shut off? Can I possibly see the entire set up? Im just tryna see as much as I possibly can to see how I want to do mine im not looking for 100% accurate because my car will never be a #1 concourse and i dont mind my own flair Quote
DonaldSmith Posted February 1, 2023 Report Posted February 1, 2023 "Jiffy Jet at Cowl": Also shows the heater piping. 1 Quote
LeRoy Posted February 1, 2023 Report Posted February 1, 2023 I've got a big gentleman jack bottle I'm looking to use for something creative, maybe a radiator overflow catch can? Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted February 1, 2023 Report Posted February 1, 2023 There are endless engine compartment pictures online of dual heater hose routing. There were two or more different designs. Dual heaters did require the rabbit ear "Y" coolant control valve.. Dennis Bickford in New Mexico should have most of the heater plumbing parts. 1 Quote
Young Ed Posted February 1, 2023 Report Posted February 1, 2023 My 48 Plymouth has the dual heaters and came to me with the single outlet valve shown in this thread. Was it there from new who knows... but I believe it was. 2 Quote
