I have been looking for information on the 23 inch head that has the hump for the last hole in the Felpro head gasket 7564C.

Is this head must have just a hump do to the shape of the gasket.

I have used this gasket on my 1950 Dodge. it looks like everything else lines up, Matched the one I took off.

What was this engine used for?

Hope to learn more from all of you.

It's the internal bypass head.  It was a later redesign of the coolant bypass system and was used in all 23' motors once the change was made.

Nothing particularly special about it, other than you really need to use it with the corresponding block, though some have fitted to earlier blocks.  There was a recent thread on that.

I accidently used the internal by-pass gasket with an external by-pass head

& it leaked. Very tiny leak but a leak none the less. I believe that issue is the

thread that Sniper was referring to. both Felpro gaskets are readily available.

I know someone used it on an earlier block by tapping he hole and plugging it, I think.  Or I could have just been dreaming about cars again.

That was me.  But I had the block with the extra hole, and both my heads were the older type without the hole. I threaded the hole, and use a cut off/grinded bolt with a slot cut in the top to fill the hole.  Reckon you could do the same with the head.

Interesting both my car and truck are this way and I haven't seen any leaking in many years and miles.
