Young Ed Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 I think Eddie the lizard was one of those. My friends 4yo who lived with me at the time named his pet after me. how kind.............. Quote
Don Coatney Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 Quite as possible is a facetious explanation offered by "The Hoosier Poet," James Whitcomb Riley. He claimed that Hoosier originated in the pugnacious habits of our early settlers. They were enthusiastic and vicious fighters who gouged, scratched and bit off noses and ears. This was so common an occurrence that a settler coming into a tavern the morning after a fight and seeing an ear on the floor would touch it with his toe and casually ask, "Whose ear?" I always thought Mike Tyson was a lizard:D Quote
Brad Lustig Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 Nah..he is not a gecko..he is America's chameleon..the Green Anole..read about him here...I like these guys, I protect lizards, frogs and turtle..http://animal-world.com/encyclo/reptiles/lizards_iguanid/GreenAnole.php I've always liked them, too. Always called them chameleons growing up. Didn't learn till later that they were actually anoles. They're also fun to catch and put to sleep on their backs. For a while, we were overrun with skinks. I think they eat anoles so the anole population dropped off quite a bit. They've made a comeback now. Quote
Brad Lustig Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 I'm not 100% on them eating the anoles. Maybe they just competed with them for food, but they sure did about overrun us recently. Quote
62rebelP23 Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 i have a bunch of 'em running around the backyard, along with one blue skink that i know of. i used to have a cat who was literally MURDER on them; he's kill 'em just for killing's sake, but the school bus got him... (karma, dude) i am really indulgent toward critters on my place, as long as they're non-poisonous. black widders get mashed regardless; we also have hybrids called brown widows; they get the BOOT too. in the springtime there'll be a dozen or so anoles vying for territory in the backyard, all puffing up their throats and wrestling for superiority. they get so worked up they don't see you coming and you can pick them up. got lots of tree frogs, too; would think that with all these carnivorous critters about i wouldn't have any spiders.....
