Hi gents; I’ve got the windshield frame removed from my 1940 1/2 ton, and I’m going to disassemble it, so a bit of metal work, paint the frame and replace the glass.

The screws in the frame that hold the trim that holds the glass are super seized; I’ve been soaking them and have tried a bit of heat but the flathead screw slots are starting to distort and I haven’t looked a screw yet.

im sure this is common, and there are people on here that have faced this same job in the past, so I’d love to hear some tips on how to go about this.

is drilling the screw heads out to get the frame and trim apart the best solution, and then deal with the screw shafts after?

Are these the 4 side screws? If so they go into a threaded piece of stock that is separate from the frame itself. If you've gone past all the normal methods like heat etc then drilling might not be the worst. You will likely have to drill all 8 though to deal with the remnants in the stock piece

Heat and cool with water. Repeatedly. The thermal change will aid in breaking rust loose. Unfortunately,penetrating oil seems to reduce success. Seems like the oil prevents water from soaking onto the rust. 
 

Drilling, easy to get off center and or break drill bits. A centre punch befor drilling a pilot hole. 
Sometimes a small chisel will knock screws loose too. I often use my dewalt impact driver to take screws out.

So the thin inside metal trim on my windshield that holds the glass into the frame is badly rotted along the bottom passenger side of the windshield.

The main part (outside) of the windshield frame is solid.

Does anyone reproduce the inside thin steel mouldings that go around the windshield? I’ve had no luck looking on the internet for them.

There is no trim. That frame is all supposed to be 1 piece except for 3 sheet metal pieces that cover the seams on the outside. One goes top to bottom in the center and then there are two tiny ones that go on the sides at the middle.

Yes it splits half way up each side. There are 2 screws on each half per side.

   I need more information, as to how far you have got. Is the frame off the truck, did you get the eight screws out that hold the top and bottom together, did you break the glass out in pieces? I replaced mine twice. The pattern for the glass was too small, the first time. I made my pattern by assembling the frame, tracing around the frame, and adding 1/4” all around. I used 1/16” glass setting tape, soap mixture and pony clamps to pull it together. I replaced the side screws and used anti-sieze and used button head socket screws for the center regulator attachment. I used an assortment of tools and soapy water, getting the seal around the frame. I even made a wheeled tool, similar to the tool to replace screens, to get the rubber seal bedded proper. The bottom of my frame channel was rusted out also. I used it anyway and fit the glass tighter to the channel. It doesn’t leak. I painted my frame with silver Rust Bullet.
