Ulu Posted December 27, 2021 Report Posted December 27, 2021 I thought this might be a single horn from the base model Plymouth. My P-15 has dual horns ahead of the radiator, and they each are almost like this: I picked up this free trumpet years ago, and someone told me it was from a Chrysler product. I have no idea what it is or if there is a real way to identify it, but it looks pretty much like a P-15 horn, so I took it. Maybe the MOPAR Horn experts could identify it for me? I can post better photographs. It doesn’t match the length of the twin horns on my P-15 exactly l, And as I recall is about 1.5 inches longer. It works and if you run it on 12 V it is super loud. I was going to put it on the P-15 as a third horn. But it has dents in the dome. If I have to restore it completely, and not just re-paint, I might have it chromed and put it on the outside of my OT Kit Kar. Does anyone know if you can disassemble this horn for chroming without completely ruining it? Quote
Ulu Posted December 27, 2021 Author Report Posted December 27, 2021 (edited) Here’s some more pictures, and when I cleaned it up I found it has a number stamped on it: HT-4012 Edited December 27, 2021 by Ulu Quote
Ranger Posted December 27, 2021 Report Posted December 27, 2021 Just out of curiosity I dug out the horn that came with my 1936 Plymouth. It is a lot different from yours. Has a wider throat and doesn’t flair up at the end like yours. You’ve got a cool looking horn there. 1 Quote
Ulu Posted December 27, 2021 Author Report Posted December 27, 2021 I think this one is constructed of more pieces because it is a little longer. Unfortunately. I can’t access my P-15 parts right now as I have two cars, a boat and a trailer parked on the way. Quote
Ulu Posted December 27, 2021 Author Report Posted December 27, 2021 A little googling on the AACA forum turned up this tidbit. The HT 4011 horn is a low pitch used on Chrysler, Dodge, Desoto '49, and plymouth 46-49. The HT 4012 is the high pitch for th same appliocation. Note: Also used on Dodge (Canada) '46-49. So I won’t be making a three horn system unless it turns out that I don’t have the original P 15 horns at all. Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted December 28, 2021 Report Posted December 28, 2021 ...and, yes, they can be disassembled relatively easily, to the point you can have the trumpet and dome chromed. I used two pairs of horns to build one good restored working pair a couple of years ago with no difficulty. Hardest part was "tuning" them once I was done. Quote
Rodney_Hamon Posted December 29, 2021 Report Posted December 29, 2021 I am reading your post with much interest as I have horn issues for my ‘36 dodge truck although I have a D-30 engine. Is it possible to see pictures of everybody’s horns? Ranger, what does a ‘36 Plymouth horn look like ? Thanks Quote
Bob Riding Posted December 30, 2021 Report Posted December 30, 2021 40 Plymouth wagon P10 (dual), 40 Plymouth 2 dr sedan P9 (singular) Quote
Rodney_Hamon Posted December 30, 2021 Report Posted December 30, 2021 Thanks for showing me. The brackets holding the horns is an education for me as well. Those dual horns are stunning! Quote
