dan01wilson Posted December 9, 2021 Report Posted December 9, 2021 My 1951 Dodge B3B starts quickly when cold; not so well when hot. I recently installed a new spring in my manifold stove. Wonder if I need to rewind the spring? Quote
Merle Coggins Posted December 10, 2021 Report Posted December 10, 2021 (edited) Is this a new issue that started after replacing the heat riser spring? It’s actually a common situation. Heat soak from the engine tends to expand the fuel in the float bowl causing a minor flooding condition. If you open the throttle slightly (1/4 throttle or so) while cranking they usually fire up much easier. Edited December 10, 2021 by Merle Coggins 1 1 Quote
jpwuertz Posted December 10, 2021 Report Posted December 10, 2021 I had this problem also and I replaced the 180 thermostat with a 160 and now the engine starts good when it is hot 1 Quote
tom'sB2B Posted December 10, 2021 Report Posted December 10, 2021 I also had that problem. I lowered the carburetor float and that has helped eliminate the problem. 1 Quote
1949 Wraith Posted December 11, 2021 Report Posted December 11, 2021 1/4 throttle on hot starts works for me as well. Heat sheild under carb and over fuel pump might assist and ensuring fuel line is routed as far away from exhaust manifod as possible can help as well. I also have jammed open the heat riser valve on both my trucks. Quote
