50 coupe Posted September 16, 2021 Report Posted September 16, 2021 Anyone who dropped a b/rb block in one of these, did you use an oil filter relocation kit or just set the motor back far enough for the front mount oil filter to clear the front of the frame? Quote
Andydodge Posted September 16, 2021 Report Posted September 16, 2021 Whilst I haven't any experience in putting a big block in an early mopar I have installed a 318 poly in my 1940 Dodge and have had a remote oil filter and separate oil cooler so I'd definately use a remote oil filter setup and even look at using an electric fuel pump to give some extra clearance on the passenger side as well.........does a remote oil filter setup still use the original filter mount or does it replace that with a part that bolts onto the actual oil pump?...............andyd Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 16, 2021 Report Posted September 16, 2021 not sure of how much you backset the engine...if none you will be as shown right on the cross member...setting back a couple inches as I did I still had to use the button filter and notch the frame here for the bit of clearance needed. The angle of your picture does not show your clearance at this point of the install. Even the angle of my picture does not really show the notch...... Quote
50 coupe Posted September 17, 2021 Author Report Posted September 17, 2021 My filter mount just clears the frame of the motor to set down in the well (without filter attached of course). However, I will need to fit with a transmission attached to get a better idea. Still researching remote filter options to see how much clearance it will provide up front. Just wanted to see what others have experienced with similar set up at this point. Quote
Sniper Posted September 17, 2021 Report Posted September 17, 2021 (edited) The major issue with the oil pump is that the relief spring is part of the end cover. If it weren't you could have a plate machined up to have the passageways come out the side rather than the front. Milodon does make such a plate, but it's setup for external oil pickups, not the internal one. I don't know if it could be used with the internal pickup, assuming you cap off the external connections and at $210 it's not cheap. You might be able to cut off the filter mounting boss, thread the passage ways for fittings and run hose that way but it's been decades since I fooled with a BB and I don't remember how those passageways make their way to the filter boss or if there is enough meat to tap them for fittings. You could look and see if that's a possibility. Edited September 17, 2021 by Sniper Quote
wayfarer Posted September 18, 2021 Report Posted September 18, 2021 Use a remote with a minimum '-8' lines and fittings. Quote
