My lack of pictures during disassembly five years ago is biting me again. My '53 B4C has a single wiper motor in the center that runs both arms. Do the pivot arms on the motor point to the front or back of the vehicle? The picture in the manual doesn't clarify much in this regard. I've tried both directions and and seemingly every combination of left, right, up, down on the linkage arms and can't seem to find the happy spot.

I've tore apart and cleaned up the inside and replaced the wiring since this picture.

This may or may not help. Chrysler manual

ELECTRIC WINDSHIELD WIPER
The windshield wiper motor and driving mechanism
is located under the cowl in the center. The
motor is held in place by a bracket which is
attached to the wiper pivot housings by spring
retainers. To remove the retainers, flatten the
prongs with a pair of pliers. The wiper blades
may be removed by unhooking them from the
blade arm. The nut which holds the blade arm
to the pivot shaft as well as the screws in the
pivot shaft housing should be kept tight.

The linkage connecting the two pivot shafts
with the two cranks on the motor may be easily
disconnected by removing the small spring locks
at each end of the linkage. When assembling
the linkage and the wiper blade arms, the motor
should be in the "off" position, because the
cranks on the motor automatically stop in the
"off" position whenever the wiper switch is
turned off.

Thanks. That's a different motor setup, but it shows the orientation of the pivot arms facing opposite directions from each other. Those on the motor face forwards, and the ones on the blades face backwards.

You may be able to tell by hooking the motor to power and running it, then turn it off.  When it stops the motors arms will be in the blades parked position.  Place the blade arms in the parked position.  Then there should be only one way the connecting arms will install.

Last week, I pulled an electric wiper setup from the '48 parts truck to clean up, and concur that the car setup pictured is similar in linkage and pivot orientation.  Note that the linkages are not flat bars but have bends to keep the ends parallel but offset.

The B3/4 wiper motor is just a very common wiper motor used on 1949-52 passenger cars....used on some Dodge cars, used on all DeSoto and Chrysler cars.

This is a 2 speed electric wiper motor....very reliable as long as the ground is good and the linkage is lubed.
