harmony Posted January 26, 2021 Report Posted January 26, 2021 I was trying to find a p/n for an ignition condenser for my '48 Chrysler 251. So that I can walk up to the counter at Napa, and walk away a happy camper. I think it might be AL869 but I'm not sure. My Distributor is an Autolite IGS-4208-A-1. But anyways I stumbled across an online pdf for Autolite 47_autolite_service.pdf Lots of great information, however the interesting thing is the vehicle year only goes up to 1947. I tried searching for the same information that included 1948 but came up empty handed. What would be the difference between '47 & '48? Quote
desoto1939 Posted January 26, 2021 Report Posted January 26, 2021 I looked in my Autolite xfer catalog that I have on a PDF the condenser is autolite IG-3927G. Sending you a PM Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com Quote
Sniper Posted January 26, 2021 Report Posted January 26, 2021 (edited) Autolite catalog thru 52 is in the downloads section. I was unable to directly cross the Autolite number to anything still in production. I did cross it to a Chrysler part number, 2098058. which I could then cross to a Wells part number 5H1018 (HD version) or 5H1099 (standard duty) for ones that look the same as original, ACDELCO C208 and STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS AL118T which functions properly but look different. ccudahy Posted January 26, 2021 Report Posted January 26, 2021 (edited) NAPA/Echlin has a nice web catalog were you can search by car, by Napa number, or competitor number (Not 70 year old Autolite numbers though?). https://www.napaechlin.com/en I looked up the AL869 condenser number and it says in the buyers guide section: So, depending on what model, that was not stated, you have it looks like it might fit. The 1948 Windsor takes a AL868 according to NAPA. P.S. The only thing I don't like about this catalog is, they forgot to put the P-15 Plymouth in the data based. So, you either got to search for 1942 or 1949 Plymouth. The D-24 is in there though. Edited January 26, 2021 by ccudahy 1 Quote

IG-3927G is what they have for the '47. That service catalog is 232 pages, but I might me assuming too much to think that all the p/n's listed in it will also apply to the '48. Quote

I did come across that p/n when I was searching, however it appears to me that it is an alternator condensor. It has a solid arm coming off it as opposed to a wire with an eye. Which is why I thought the AL869, was the appropriate condenser, which it seems is used in the industrial flathead 6. But according to your information it was used in the '48 Imperial C-40 which was a flathead 8, I believe. Quote

Perfect! Thanks Sniper. That's the one I was looking for which is probably the next edition to the one I downloaded last night. It also suggests that the condenser is indeed the IG-3927G. I'm a happy camper However now we'll jst have to see if the parts guy at Napa can do a cross reference or maybe order it in using that p/n perhaps. Quote
