BobT-47P15 Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 A gentleman in California named Tom Fonte rebuilds steering wheels....as far as I know he still does it. Will have to check my home email for his address. Don't know the cost. Quote

captden29 Posted October 5, 2007 Report Posted October 5, 2007 jim, keep posting on every site like WPC and other old car sites. i needed a wheel for my 51 windsor a few years ago and was put off by the price of rebuilding mine, although i do realize there is alot of time and labor involved. eventually a guy in calif. sold me a decent wheel for $150, a few scratches and nicks but great for my driver. they are out there if you have some patience. heck, i've heard of some people re-doing their own with epoxy. dennis Quote
Jims50chrysler Posted October 5, 2007 Author Report Posted October 5, 2007 The car will be a driver.....sounds like a reconditioned wheel, as nice as they look, will be out of the question ($$$$$) I will keep shopping for a good used one. Thanks for your advice. Jim Quote
Young Ed Posted October 5, 2007 Report Posted October 5, 2007 If you can find a decent one you should be able to epoxy and repaint. I just did mine. Quote
Normspeed Posted October 5, 2007 Report Posted October 5, 2007 PatS, beautiful work. I'm sure the quality makes it worth the cost. I've missed a couple bargains on NOS wheels. Jim, I'd watch the bay and be ready to spend a few bucks. It's ironic that the more luxurious models used more of that new space age stuff, plastics and pot metal, while the cheaper Plymouths and Dodges stayed with the more durable technology, chrome, stainless, and hard rubber. Love 'em all though. Quote
PatS.... Posted October 5, 2007 Report Posted October 5, 2007 May we ask how much$$?? We did a trade for a wheel I had that he wanted that didn't need restoration. For a current price, best to contact Tom. Top quality work and, well, you get what you pay for. Quote
Jims50chrysler Posted October 6, 2007 Author Report Posted October 6, 2007 Here is what my steering wheel looks like (not a very good pic) but should be good enough to get an idea of what it looks like. I will try to get a better pic later Jim Quote
Jims50chrysler Posted October 7, 2007 Author Report Posted October 7, 2007 Thanks very much Tim JIm Quote
