While I am waiting on machine costs and deciding where to take the block(s).

 

Suggestion for rebuild kit suppliers?

Terrill can set you up for a full rebuild with replacement parts, but I heard that Egge catered to the performance crowd with custom cam grinding, aluminum heads, and other speed parts...

It seems the 218 and 230 is same block, but the rotating assembly is different, crank, rods, flywheel. There may be some advantages to having the 230 crank and the extra bolt holes.

Fluid drive trans comes into mind ... either way you go, is not a numbers matching build ... use the best parts you have and build it ... What is a 230, 5 hp more then a 218?

With fabrication you can make the 25" motor fit ... Is it ready to go, or does it need rebuilt? Without looking it up, I doubt the 25" motor much more HP.

 

Working on my truck and not driving it on the street yet.   The little 218 has a lot of torque, they are not a bad engine. I laugh at mine, A few months ago I was moving my truck in the driveway ... am sitting on a 5 gallon bucket and floor is cut out, gas pedal is hung up by a piece of wire ... a little sketchy ... I by accident left a little burnout patch in my driveway ...Today I moved it, it spun the tires in the gravel ... the little 218 likes to run, was used for decades it is a good motor. Build any of them, do not be ashamed to have a 218.

Should have mentioned, but in this context may not matter, going with the 

T306 23" 218ci Dodge Truck B-3-B, B-4-B 1951-1953 with 230ci innards.

 

Speed parts are OK 'as long as they are inside', engine from the outside must be stock

vehicle is too original to have 'headers and dual carbs' no matter how COOL it would look.

Not opposed to maxing out the block, shaving the head, etc. 

May get both 23"ers magnafluxed, so I know if I have a spare, but the engine will probably outlast me.  ?

Have you checked with Napa, or other local parts stores for gasket kits for your engine? Also, once you find a good machine shop to do the machining work, they will likely have a good source for engine parts too.

The Clegg price will be hard to beat.  I looked at the web page for that kit and the brands are mainstream and quality stuff, at least that is what is pictured.  If you want to piece together a kit, watch eBay.  I've managed to buy everything I needed to do a couple of engines.  Took a few weeks of watching to find all the stuff at good prices though.  New old stock gaskets and real Dodge boxed rings in .040!  Hard to find in that size and genuine Mopar too.  Only thing that had to be sourced from the maker was the rear main seal.  No rope for me, went with the '56 version rubber from Best.

Occasionally eBay sellers will do this, the chain auto parts stores definitely do this:  put an item in your watchlist or your cart and within 24-48 hrs a 10-25% discount is offered...on big jobs, the savings add up, but they catch on if ya make this move too often so choose wisely :cool:

Response from Terrill, all piece meal, so hard to compare at this point.

Need to get a list together before any decision is made......

 

We have everything needed to rebuild your engine and we sell each item individually . We don't sell it in a kit form.
If you can let us know which parts you require , we can tell you price and availability. 
We will need to know what size you need on the main bearings, rod bearings and pistons. THANKS,  Feltz Terrill
