Chester Brzostowski Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 The old car is starting to look like a car again. I hope to get back to this over the weekend. It was definitely a pain aligning the hood. I am thinking of adding a cross member support to help out the weak hood. One of my hinges binds on opening so I have to pull the hood forward to help it out a bit. I think a cross member will help.?? PS... The hood wasn't fully closed in the picture. Chet… Quote
55 Fargo Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 Lookin good Chet, whats the next step, lookin forward to more of your updates. Just finshed painting the under floor and frame, with body on it's q real pain of a job...........Fred Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 Chet, do your hood hinges have the threaded holes to attach a brace? Here's mine in place. Here's a shot of how the brace is made....with a channel in the middle for strength. It has oval holes for adjustment up or down. Quote
Chester Brzostowski Posted October 3, 2007 Author Report Posted October 3, 2007 Bob, My hinges do not have the pre-drilled holes but I think I could modify them. Now to find a hood brace. By the way thanks for the pictures. Now I know what I am looking for. Mr Fred, I feel your pain I did the bottom of my car a section at a time over a 2 year period while doing other things along the way. The worst part was the area under the differential and the gas tank. I was covered in grease and grime from head to toe. Keep at, Chet… Quote
greg g Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 Chet, are you gonna have that ready for the Sully show next summer? On the way home from NC, I stoped into see Jim Yergin. He said you and he and Rodney usually attend that show in VA. So I guess the challange is to get yours and Jim's Plymouths there and Rodney's Hawk, and my Studie Pickup. So you up for it??? Haven't heard from Rodney in a while he must be very busy with his Hawk. Quote

Greg, Sounds like a plan. I don’t think the 48 will be finished for the next Sully Show but I could always bring the 29-U. It gets better and better every time I fix something. It’s turning into a pretty good driver, that is if you’re not in a hurry to get anywhere. Kind-a like a sail boat. Chet… Quote
greg g Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 Ready about! Hard alee!!!!!! That thing got hicking straps?????? Quote
Don Jordan Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 Chet, There's an old saying that goes: "I felt bad because I had no shoes until I met a man that had no feet." The next time I complain because my garage is so small I'm going to pull up the picture of your car. How do you spell claustrophobic? One of these days I'm going to learn how to post pictures so I can show off my bucket. I know we only do cars here but I just restored my 69 Triumph 650 - someone has got to appreciate that. I think that without "before" pictures we wouldn't have the courage to shoot for the "after" shots. Quote

The car use-to-be under the back porch. With a chainsaw and a dream you can turn almost any structure into a garage. Chet… Quote
Don Coatney Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 Chet; Here are a few more hood bracket pictures. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted October 6, 2007 Report Posted October 6, 2007 Greg your right, I have been knee deep in the hawk. The motor is 90% finished and the body is 60% finished meanwhile at the house I got the dash and steering wheel almost done, just have to put the gauges back:mad: if I can remember how they go! The chrome guy's shipped my grill and it got damaged. The chrome co. wants to give me 200.00 and keep 100.00 for themselves, meanwhile that would not replace my grill. I have another chrome company now and hope to find another and have it chromed. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted October 6, 2007 Report Posted October 6, 2007 The body of the car was being worked on at a body in DC Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted October 6, 2007 Report Posted October 6, 2007 The motor's cam is being degreed in and they say it will be something else! Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 6, 2007 Report Posted October 6, 2007 looked at the two hawks in the junkyard again yesterday...grilles were gone...few brows left..one hood and it was kinked on the right... Dash and wheel look superb...PM me on the new chrome company as I also have used your old company that is becoming less reliable as it appears... for tohers...the D24, P15 and other older mopars wee about all stripped..one gas tanks..bottom seemed solid but one top corner was history...
