Jims50chrysler Posted October 1, 2007 Report Posted October 1, 2007 This could be a dumb question but my curiosity has gotten the best of me, Why is this site dedicated to 46-48 dodge and plymouth? seems like anything that was put out under the chrysler corp banner around these years would be very much the same. Normspeed Posted October 1, 2007 Report Posted October 1, 2007 I think the original concept was just to have a forum for those three model years where very little changed. I'll bet GTK never dreamed it would draw such a crowd of like minded car nuts. I'm a relative newbie here, this is what, the third version of the forum? Quote
greg g Posted October 1, 2007 Report Posted October 1, 2007 Cuz Desoto, and Chrysler already have sites, and the Dodges and Plymouths share the same drive train whereas the DeS and Chry have the longblock engines. Besides I believe or genial host has a Plymouth and a Dodge and that where his interest was when he started out. In reality, you will find most mopar folks here with flatheads, from the 30's to the mid 50's. I don't believe any one was ever escorted out by the seargent at arms......... So don't look a gift horse in the mouth, keep you upity Chrysler affectation (just cuz yer engine is 1 1/2 inches longer don't make a better engine) on the downlow and enjoy the comoroderie. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted October 1, 2007 Report Posted October 1, 2007 Normspeed is correct. Originally GTK set it up just for the P15's and D24's. However, because most of the mechanicals of other years are the same, the forum just sort of grew to a broader covered area. Since it's not paid for by a club like the POC, it also grew into other area's of custom and hot rodding the old Mopar's. It just sort of evolved over the years even beyond GTK's wildest dreams. Guest P15-D24 Posted October 1, 2007 Report Posted October 1, 2007 First, I have a P15 and D24, plus a B1 truck. The Yahoo Heavy Metal site was focused on Chrysler, Desoto.org was already well established. Both are solid sites specific to those brands. The Plymouth and Dodge owners had nothing. If you look at the logo I did intent the focus to be all the post war mopars however. Over the years it has evolved into any flathead powered mopar site. Definitely has grown way more than I ever imagined! Quote
randroid Posted October 1, 2007 Report Posted October 1, 2007 I'd like to thank our host for making this site what it is. Gents, I've been wrenching on my Landlord's '76 Ranchero 400 ci slug to turn a few bucks while Lady Lynn is on leave from work, and I ran into a problem or two so I joined a Ranchero forum to get an answer. That forum's format resembles ours except for two little things: 1. Nobody seems to know squat about what must be a common problem (torquing a head bolt when the heater box is in the way; a problem I figured out on my own). 2. Fully one half of every page is splattered with annoying ads. Ads along the left margin and ads in the opposite corners and ads appearing wherever they will. Lots of ads and no substance. Our host could probably bring in some of those ads and quit his real job but he hasn't, and for this I would like to thank him personally. Well done, Lad! -Randy Quote
Don Coatney Posted October 1, 2007 Report Posted October 1, 2007 I beg to differ, Greg...size DOES matter:D Pat; You are correct. Size does matter. That is why I went with a big block:D And also the size and frequency of the donations we make to this site are inportant in keeping it advertisment free and fun for all. For all newbys there is a link at the top of this page "FORUM DONATION INFO" with instructions on how, where, and why to donate. Quote
55 Fargo Posted October 1, 2007 Report Posted October 1, 2007 This is and only my own personal opinion here, and not to discount any other site. I have found this to be the best site by far, I belong to a few, they are all good, but this one is excellent, not only is it informative, entertaining, I have made a few friends on here, that have been very helpful in my pursuit of getting my 47/48 Chrashler up and running. If the club had been exclusive to 46 to 48 P and D, I would have been on the other forums, but this one is by far the best. Glad to be a part of the buzz on here...................Fred Quote
Jims50chrysler Posted October 1, 2007 Author Report Posted October 1, 2007 I have to agree, after reading through alot of the diffrent forums it was very clear that the information that I required and am going to require could be found on this one and by your willingness to accept models outside the specified Dodge and Plymouth proves that the people here are the kind of people that I want to converse with. This chrysler is kinda opening up my mind, I knew I was going to build another street rod (previously had a 46 Ford coupe) so when I had a chance to buy a doner low milage Caprice with a fuel injected 305 I bought it. I have decided that the original 6 in the Plymouth is going to stay. It runs real nice, it's in the car already and not everybodys streetrod is powered by a 57 year old engine. (the kids are having a ball tearing up the field in the Caprice.) thanks for the information everyone but I do have one more question.....why is it the guys with the small ones always say size doesn't matter? Young Ed Posted October 1, 2007 Report Posted October 1, 2007 Yes its great that all the other mopars can hang out in here. I may not he here if it wasnt for that. When I joined I only had my 46 pickup. Somewhere along the way I fell in love with the p15s and then bought one of those too. Randy I didn't get an answer back before you came up with your own solution but I did ask Dad who worked at a Ford dealership about the time they would have been working on that ranchero. He said it was common to have to drop a motor mount and raise or lower the engine an inch or so to get at stuff like that. Quote
