The usual junk in the trunk...... Anyone have a guess what that manifold goes to??? The engine number..... Which of the serial numbers, if any, tells the paint color(s) of these old Plyms? Musta been some wire termites under the hood once..... Quote

Look for it and maybe we can figure out what it fits. The bottom of that trunk deck looks pretty nice. So whats the plan? Going to restore it or just pull parts from it? Mice seem to love to chew on wire insulation for some reason and so do squirrels. My house is the only one on the block that has underground wiring from the post, so it comes down the post into the ground. Then the wire coming down is covered with a steel cover going into the ground and about half way up the pole. Squirrel got down there about 10 years ago, then tried to chew his way out. Came home from work and only half my house had electricity. Electric company had to dig at the bottom of the pole to repair the problem. That's when they found the fried squirrel. Keep an eye out for the yard police. Quote

Some newer engines have rectangular/square ports instead of round ports. No telling what that manifold is off of. Just noticed that what I thought was an old wheel earlier is actually an air cleaner. Also noticed you have what looks like a disc brake rotor laying there. Looks like the trunk of this car was a place for the previous owner to stash all his misc. parts. Quote

Also has power steering so its also a late model 54. Does the engine spin? Hows the interior? Where did you find this lovely new lawn ornament? Is that all surface rust or is there any cancer? Quote

Looked at them with a flashlight last night specifically to see if any missing spokes....did not see any. Seems to be all surface rust, no rust thru places I can spot so far. Headliner is falling down, no carpets, seats have quality old covers and are pretty good. Door panels have been wet and are frazzled at the bottom. Had a Simon & Garfunkel tape in the trunk, plus one by Bill Cosby. There was a bunch of these Vess Cola bottle caps.....most were rusty. If you look just to the right of the license plate, you can see a plug in for trailer lights. There is a hole in the middle of the rear bumper with no bolt thru it.....evidently had a trailer hitch at one time. Trunk floor has been wet.....is rusty......but no real holes in it. Sne small one on the left between trunk floor and fender. Quote

BobT-47P15 Posted September 20, 2007 Author Report Posted September 20, 2007 Floor of the trunk is rusty....was damp. Have hosed it out and cleaned out the debris. Seems fairly solid. Has the Powerflite trans....... Judging by several empty trans fluid bottles found in the trunk, it was leaking. Seller found the removed trim pieces in his attic and tossed them in..... Haven't had time to look at them yet......will be interesting to see what shape they're in. He couldn't find the clips..... The young fellow driving the flatbed did a good job of loading and unloading just where I wanted it. Have one of those white nylon (or whatever) type car covers over it. Being white, the thing stands out worse than the dull green/rust car itself. Just need some BBQ to go with those paper towels.....would share with Norm. Quote

Could never get away with that around here, even if you had it covered. To begin with, it would have to be sitting on a paved surface. It would also need current license plates on it if it sits for more than 30 days. Even with current plates, it would have to be moved at least once every 30 days. Not only that, but that close to the road, the snow plow would bury it in the winter when they plowed the street. The city doesn't normally enforce the code, but if someone complains, then they will enforce the code. Then I would have to find a way to hide it. Quote

Also at that time, the son went off to college. It was just about impossible for a passerby to see.....in a back corner of the owner's large yard. They put it on ebay when the son finally decided he did not need it and would likely never get it restored. Gas tank may not be too bad.....had a whole colony of mud dobber nests. The tail pipe is real solid, the no holes in the muffler. Grease leaks in the usual places. Body number tag...... Not sure what I'll get accomplished with it soon.....may be wanting to sell. Am keeping track of expenses to see just what I put in it. Anyone interested in it???? Quote

Tim, Yard police aren't that bad (at least around me), but you just never know. Living in the city does have it's pluses. Like, hardware store not even 5 minutes away. Not just one, but two "REAL" hardware stores, plus a Home Depot, Lowes and Menard's (like HD & Lowes). Not to mention other stores and shops, etc. also being that close. Then there are the arts downtown within 20 minutes via the freeway. If professional sports is your bag, we have the Bucks (basketball), Admirals (hockey) and the Milwaukee Brewers. All three of those stadiums are also within about 20 or 30 minutes (about 10 miles) from me. In the summer there is always some ethnic festival to attend weekly within 30 minutes away, should you so desire on the lakefront. Then of course if you're into water activities, we also have the lakefront that stretches the whole length of the city for boating and swimming, or just basking in the sun on the beach. Recently even found out that about 40 minutes from me is a national popular beach where people enjoy surfing the lake waves. So, Milwaukee is a good place to live with all kinds of things going on year round. Even the outdoor ice skating rink that is open downtown, and that's free. Also all the free outdoor concerts all over the city during the summer months at night. Just take your favorite lawn chair and enjoy the music, or sit on the ground. These are just some of the "fun" things living in the city. There are lots more advantages not mentioned. So, I can put up with a few yard police here and there. All that stuff is only between 1 or 2 miles and 10 or 11 miles away, except the surfing place. I don't surf anyway, so that doesn't matter. Quote

Norm's Coupe Posted September 20, 2007 Report Posted September 20, 2007 Tim, The traffic isn't so bad, especially since I don't have to contend with it during rush hour. Any other time of the day you can breeze right through the city, unless there is an accident or construction going on. I spent about 25 years on the road selling. During that time I found that traffic was worse in small towns than in the large cities. That's because the roads were not wide enough to handle the traffic and not enough control at intersections to handle the small amount of traffic the did have. A good example of that was last week when I was in Branson, MO. Their Main Street was only two lanes and a center lane for making turns. In the main stretch (about 5 miles long) there are all kinds of sites and stores to turn in and out of, plus intersections. When the shows let out at about 12PM, 4PM and about 10 PM the traffic is really heavy. Yet in that whole stretch there is only one stop light and it's really hard to make a left turn anywhere in that stretch at that time because the traffic is so heavy. There was another stop light at the bottom of the hill in the old downtown section. However, I had to sit through trough 3 traffic lights just to get through that one several time. You don't see that here. We have mostly 4 & 6 lane roads here with a turn lane at the lights with a separate light to make the left turns. So, the traffic moves real good here in Milwaukee. I'm talking about the side roads in Milwaukee, not the freeway. Even during rush hour I can take Lake Drive along the lakefront and be downtown within about 20 minutes. Quote

I have a small house with no garage, so I need to be really creative for my storage needs. Bronco holds a lot of gear! Any why do people use the trunks for junk collecting?
