RobertKB Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Just bought the '52 Dodge 1 or 1 1/2 ton truck for $150 thanks to Brendan D25 of this forum. I live in Alberta and he lives in Newfoundland about 4000 miles away. However, he was working in my part of the world and was in Lethbridge where I live doing deliveries and came across this old truck and was kind enough to let me know about it. The colours of black and blue suit it as the body is really rough and full of rot but it does have good mechanics in it. I plan on pulling the engine, which runs well, and keeping the radiator out of it so I can run it once they are in my garage. Motor is a P26 so I think out of a '55 Plymouth. Unfortunately will likely have to scrap the rest of it due to storage problems after taking any good electrics out of it. Has a very solid gas tank, tranny with a power take off, and differential seems fine as it was towed on its rear wheels due to poor tires on front. If you see any parts you like let me know and they are yours for cheap and shipping. Anyway, thanks again Brendan for the heads up. This forum is amazing! Quote
Brendan D25 Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 I am glad that you got it Robert as I expect it could of ended up being sold for scrap metal. I have the hood ornament of that truck here in my garage. I was hoping it would fit my D25 but doesen't come close. I have travelled a lot of highways in Western Canada for the last eleven years driving semi for one of the larger trucking companies and am always looking out for old cars and trucks. I should be out there now but have been having some health problems. Brendan. Quote
RobertKB Posted September 14, 2007 Author Report Posted September 14, 2007 Hope you feel better soon Brendan and remember if you ever get to Lethbridge again to look me up. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Robert, By the style of the nose and doors, that's a '48-'50 model. (if the parking brake is a lever through the floor, it's a '48 or '49. If the park brake is cable operated with a handle under the dash, it's a '50) And it looks like it's a 1 ton. Is the serial # tag on the cab post by the drivers side door? The 1 ton trucks had the 230 CID engine. Is the P26 engine also a 230? Merle Quote
greg g Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Robert, good deal, maybe the parts sell of will cover your purchase price. The engine in my car is from a 56 Plymouth (230) and if I am not mistaken it is a P28, I believe the P26 is a 54 and could be a 230 but might be a 218. Measure the stroke by pulling the pipe plug over #6 and measure by inserting a lenght of stiff wire and turning the engine through a revolution. 4 3/8 is 218 4 5/8 is 230. Quote
RobertKB Posted September 15, 2007 Author Report Posted September 15, 2007 Greg, I looked in my parts book that goes up to 1954 and in Canada all Plymouths of that year were P25's so I am still thinking that a P26 is from a 55 Plymouth although the truck is older but has obviously been re-engined at some point. All 1954 Plymouths in Canada were the long block with 228 CID displacement so I am thinking that this engine is likely that but will look into it further. Any thing I sell will be cheap and the rest will go for scrap. I hate to scrap anything but this truck is a perfect example of a donor and not worth the effort of restoration. It will live on in other vehicles! Merle, you could well be right as I believe the handbrake is on the floor. Will look into it further next time I am out getting the engine ready to pull. Thanks for the info. Quote
greg g Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 All I know was this was sitting under a tarp on a pallet infront of a 56 Plaza 2dr. Quote

greg g Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 Robert, Just noticed the Clearence lapms onthe cab. Looking for a couple for my Studebaker project. If there are a pair of them I am interested. Not really concerned about the chrome finish. Gonna use them as fender top signals, instead of the round stand up style usually used on PU's. PM me please. thanks Quote
