Dennis_MN Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 I have 51 3/4 ton Thay I need to remove the front fenders for repair. Are the truck like the cars in that you can remove the entire front clip. If so how many bolts and where are the general location? Yes the entire front clip can be lifted off after removing a bunch of bolts on each side. I recommend removing the hood as the first step, then remove the radiator. This makes the front clip a little lighter and easy for two guys to lift it off. The inner fenders come off next, and remember to mark your wires for the headlights and parking lights so that wiring on reassembly will not be a mystery. The two hardest bolts on each side to remove are the upper bracket bolts up under the rear of the fender. The lower phillips head bolts took a nut breaker to remove. The next bugger is the bolt under the radiator. Shouldn't take too long to remove. I used a system to store the bolts that I removed.. The hood bolts, including the piece infront of the radiator, then a jar for the inner fender bolts, and last a jar for the bolts at the rear of the fender. Dennis Quote
grey beard Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Mr. 1949, You can also remove the entire nose as one piece - my suggestion, and what I did with mine. First, as Merle said, pull the radiator - just six bolts after it's drained and it comes straight up and out of there. Now the nose clip will weigh 75 pound less when you lift it off. Basically you must remove two bolts on each side at the top of the fenders, near the front door hinge - mine broke off. Then the one single fastener at the bottom rear of each fender. Inside at the rear of the inner fenders you must remove one bolt on each side. The head is inside the hood, down low at the rear. Then there are two 3/4 size nuts directly underneath the radiator support at the center of the front corssmenber. Then the nose is free and can come straight off, inner fenders and all. Four bolts on each side at the rear of the fenders and two nurts up front. Best to get a helper to lift it off. I removed mine with no help, but do not recommend it unless you are a real body builder-sort of guy LOL Quote
Young Ed Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 That's how it tells you to do it in my 46 owners manual. I believe they show it radiator and all and being lifted by a hoist of some sort. Quote
Guest Dave Claussen Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 I removed my entire front section (fenders and front nose section with my cherry picker and a long strap made for towing. Worked like a charm and I did it by myself. Quote
Don Coatney Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 This picture (this is not me) shows that the front end removal can be a one man job. Quote
oldmopar Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 This picture (this is not me) shows that the front end removal can be a one man job. If you come accross of a picture of that being a one Woman job it would be a more interesting photo Quote
