Dustin Posted December 14, 2018 Report Posted December 14, 2018 I bought my plaza as a driver but she had a little tick so I decided to pull her out. Upon taking the manifolds off I noticed coolant coming from almost all of the stud holes. Is this normal? Quote
busycoupe Posted December 14, 2018 Report Posted December 14, 2018 Yes, several of the manifold studs go into the water jacket. When you get replace them you should use some kind of sealer on the threads. Also, it is good practice to replace the studs with new ones. Several suppliers sell complete sets with the proper washers and nuts. Quote
Dustin Posted December 14, 2018 Author Report Posted December 14, 2018 Thanks for that info. I will buy a stud extractor soon to finish undressing her. But I have other issues on the port side how should I go about addressing bad putting? Quote

Two nuts, tightened together will allow you to remove them. Edited December 14, 2018 by kencombs Quote
Conn47D24 Posted December 14, 2018 Report Posted December 14, 2018 Soak them all with PB or similar very well 1st. They are ussually corroded from tge water and heat exposure . Quote
Jerry Roberts Posted December 15, 2018 Report Posted December 15, 2018 Some of the cylinder head studs and some of the water pump studs also go into the water jacket . Quote

Dustin Posted December 15, 2018 Author Report Posted December 15, 2018 Thank you guys for the knowledge. This is my first big project. I've also noticed none of the head had studs they were all bolts same with the crank and manifolds only had 4 studs. Is that normal every small engine I've ever taken apart was studded. Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 15, 2018 Report Posted December 15, 2018 This might or might not help. Replacement studs are available at most any hardware store. Bolts not studs are standard on most heads. I have re-used head bolts many times with no problem. If you elect to buy new head bolts the shaft must have an undercut shank as pictured below. Standard bolts are not undercut and will rust fast to the head and most likely break when you try to remove them. 1 Quote
Dustin Posted December 15, 2018 Author Report Posted December 15, 2018 I will most likely order new bolts for the main, head, and manifolds Quote
