Dennis Detweiler Posted July 10, 2018 Report Posted July 10, 2018 I want to convert my 39 4 door Plymouth Sedan to front discs. The Scarebird kit shows 39 - 45 (ex. 7 pass.). Does this mean their kit won't work on my sedan? Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 10, 2018 Report Posted July 10, 2018 The only one I know who could correctly answer that question would be Scarebird. Give them a call. 1 Quote
wayfarer Posted July 10, 2018 Report Posted July 10, 2018 Common question and the best answer is, as Don says, is to callem'. Someone will correct me but, IIRC, the 7-pass are the Limo's and Suburbans with the additional jump seats. Quote
casper50 Posted July 10, 2018 Report Posted July 10, 2018 I agree with wayfarer, the 7 pass are limos Quote
Dennis Detweiler Posted July 10, 2018 Author Report Posted July 10, 2018 I sent the question to Scarebird this morning and waiting for a reply. The above info makes sense. I hadn't thought about the limo. My sedan would be a tight fit with 7 passengers, but doable. lol Quote
Dennis Detweiler Posted July 10, 2018 Author Report Posted July 10, 2018 I emailed Scarebird and I got the same question back, "Is your car a 7 passenger?" I assume I can order a Scarebird kit and it will work. I looked at the Rusty Hope website. It sounds like his kit involves drilling, tapping and possibly machining for proper bearing fit. Quote
casper50 Posted July 10, 2018 Report Posted July 10, 2018 I used scarebird on the front and AAJ on the rear of my 47. Neither needed any thing except wrenches to install. Quote
Andydodge Posted July 10, 2018 Report Posted July 10, 2018 I've always thought that the "ex 7 pass" wording means that the part or parts will fit whatever year is indicated "EXCLUDING the 7 passenger cars" which as far as I am aware in the Dodge & Plymouth brands used the larger/stronger DeSoto and/or Chrysler parts where required on their limo/7 passnger cars.........andyd Quote
Frank Elder Posted July 11, 2018 Report Posted July 11, 2018 Dennis I don't have your answer but on my 47 dodge the rims are a 5 x 4.5 bolt pattern. on the limo/ lwb models the pattern is 5 x 5.......so I would say no go. Quote
Dennis Detweiler Posted July 11, 2018 Author Report Posted July 11, 2018 (edited) After much research my Plymouth P8 4 dr sedan is 5 passenger and not considered a limo 7 passenger. Bolt pattern is 4.5. So, the Scarebird kit will work. The limo could seat 3 in front and 4 in the rear and had larger rear doors with a slightly longer wheel base. I assume it had a heavier suspension and spindles. Edited July 11, 2018 by Dennis Detweiler more info Quote
DonaldSmith Posted July 11, 2018 Report Posted July 11, 2018 Typically, the long-wheelbase sedans had a full rear seat, and in the extra 18 inches between the front and back seat, a pair of jump seats. (In some cases, there may be a full second seat?) So. I guess they would count two in front, two on the jump seats, and three on the back seat. The DeSoto Suburban had a full size second seat, and a folding rear seat that was an extension of a cargo floor in the trunk. (They claimed seating for up to nine, a real squeeze.) Quote
