Uberchin Posted November 30, 2017 Report Posted November 30, 2017 I am trying to replace 2 bulbs that are either burned out or need to have theircontacts cleaned. Does anybody know how to remove these bulbs? One is in the dome light which I can't figure out how to open up. Thanks Quote
Brad47 Posted November 30, 2017 Report Posted November 30, 2017 If the dome light is like my d25 it should just pop off and you can access the bulb ? The socket light looks like a push and turn but it’s hard to tell cheers Quote
Ajgkirkwood Posted November 30, 2017 Report Posted November 30, 2017 Yea looks like you push down on the light and turn counter clock wise. Theres 2 tabs on the bulb that slide into a track that looks like a "j" Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 30, 2017 Report Posted November 30, 2017 the socket shown look like the actual back side can yet be snapped from the front section as you can see the bayonet slots at the very rear... Quote
Jerry Roberts Posted November 30, 2017 Report Posted November 30, 2017 On the dome light just pull the bezel and lens away from the rest of the fixture . 2 Quote
DonaldSmith Posted November 30, 2017 Report Posted November 30, 2017 Usually, for an old bulb, you push down and turn counterclockwise, until the bulb separates from the base. Then you remove the base with needle nose pliers. But it's a burnt-out bulb anyway. You might want to put bulb grease on the new bulb, so it will come out easily forty years from now. Quote
Uberchin Posted December 1, 2017 Author Report Posted December 1, 2017 Thanks for the replies. Is there supposed to be a dimmer switch somewhere for the instrument gauge lights? Mine are very dim... Quote
Los_Control Posted December 1, 2017 Report Posted December 1, 2017 Be a good time to go through all the grounds, they are very important and a weak ground could cause a dim light. Positive ground electrical systems seem to complain loudly when has a weak ground. I really would want to go through all grounds, battery to frame, engine to frame, heater and headlights, dash lights, remove all of them one at a time and clean with sandpaper, file, whatever tool works. I think it would be time well spent for future electrical troubleshooting and basic reliability. 1 Quote
DrDoctor Posted December 1, 2017 Report Posted December 1, 2017 Uberchin, Our ’46 Plymouth had a very small toggle switch on the bottom of the dash just to the right of the steering column. In one position, the dash lights were “bright” (relatively speaking . . .), and in the other position, the dash lights were “dim” (aka: almost off . . .). When I rewired the car using a Ron Francis Wire Works “Git It Runnin’” harness, I wasn’t able to readily locate a light switch that would fit where the original was, so I used the one provided in the harness, and relocated it in the small panel switch on the bottom of the dash in the center of the dash. Works just fine. I left the small toggle switch in place, just for aesthetics. Regards . . . . Quote
