Los_Control Posted October 25, 2017 Report Posted October 25, 2017 I am curious what the purpose of wrapping the springs in metal is? Never seen this before. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 25, 2017 Report Posted October 25, 2017 Surburban Springs....sounds like a gated community with a free flowing water source Quote

Mark D Posted October 25, 2017 Report Posted October 25, 2017 Wrapping the springs allowed for grease to stay between the leaves, thereby making the ride quieter with less squeaking. Probably also helped immensely at the submarine races... Quote
Los_Control Posted October 26, 2017 Author Report Posted October 26, 2017 Thanks Mark, that makes sense, only thing I could think of. Then I wondered if it would actually cause more noise if you did not grease on a regular schedule. .... like most car drivers Quote

DonaldSmith Posted October 26, 2017 Report Posted October 26, 2017 Never had the lead spring wrappings. Springs squeaked. Disassembled and greased the springs; squeaks came back. Then I bought spring liners from one of the on-line speed shops. Photo shows the liners in place as I was adding lowering blocks. Quote
Jerry Roberts Posted October 26, 2017 Report Posted October 26, 2017 I greased my springs using the tool in the photo to spread the leaves . Newer spring material is said to be adverse to grease . Quote
