POPTOP Posted April 4, 2016 Report Posted April 4, 2016 Im getting ready to paint my 1949 b1b the original color red I have the old codes ditzler - PPG 70002 and Dupont 93-23797R and Im was wanting to use a polyurethane single stage does anyone got a suggestion paint shop cant find the codes Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted April 4, 2016 Report Posted April 4, 2016 first off going with poly paint says you will not be in the correct formulae...any newer paint will be a close a match as possible and no mixer will guarantee a spot on for the original...getting close is best they can do..they will mix a small sample batch to a formula they may measure by reflected light or by a color sample you pick out of a book...to do a spot check would be your next move..if satisfied...you buy the correct amount for an overall shoot.. POPTOP Posted April 5, 2016 Author Report Posted April 5, 2016 I read on line that the code for the dodge 1948 and 1949 was Ditzler 70002 also called the same as coke cola red if it I would use that code has anyone else seen that once I got the right code make a sample that match the poly Quote
Brent B3B Posted April 5, 2016 Report Posted April 5, 2016 wonder if it depends on the site as to what they called it http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?model=Dodge&year=1949&con=oy&rows=50 Quote
Dave72dt Posted April 5, 2016 Report Posted April 5, 2016 Spectramaster RS 910 from the Dupont, Nason lineup is an extremely close matchup. That was matched to a color sanded and buffed section of the back side of the glove box door. That's what is on the cab of the truck in this year's invitation to the BBQ. Quote
John-T-53 Posted April 6, 2016 Report Posted April 6, 2016 I couldn't even get a color matched from 1950's paint codes 25 years ago. I did what Tim stated in post #2 based on original color chips out of a book. While browsing through color books at the paint store, you might even come across a color you like more than the original, and go with that (just keep it a secret). Quote
