Have you done a forum search? Or looked in the resources section of this web page? Lots of information can be found there.

Don,that's nice, but where does a 56 DeSoto fit in? I plan on putting the hemi and a push button 727 in my 33 coupe, and was also going to use the rear and front brakes from the junk 56 DeSoto 4dr.

That's one of the nice things about the 9 inch.  You can cut it to size, get new brg flanges for the ends, set ups for disc brakes and axles cut and splined as needed.  If I'm not mistaken, the diff unit may not be exactly in the center of the housing.  I believe it may be offset to one side so if you cut it down, one side may need to be cut more than the other to get the unit centered under the car.

I used a Ford 8.8 out of a 2001 Explorer. Fits great as is and already has disc brakes. However your stock wheels will not fit the disc brake models. If that's a concern go with the earlier years with drum brakes. The bolt pattern is the same.

power or speed..there is a difference

...with a decent 383 he can have both...... ;)

rpm is rpm at speed....same as a slant 6 will run with a V8 once at speed....was just making a ratio statement....

most my units I have geared for higher speed and rage in 2.72 with my 383 and torqueflite to the 3.55 V6 but with the added 5th gear OD I am not  much for for earth shaking tire burning starts the lower ratio will give you....now if talking truck where the working ratio is of benefit..yes concede the lower gears to some degree..

I guess I am more for passing the gas station than beating the idiot in the next lane thinking the streets are meant for racing to the next light.

a build should never involve just one factor in a street car and compromise is often the wiser choice..now if you are all track..then apples and oranges
