Hello I just want to tintroduce my self. I'm from atlanta, GA. I found a rotting 47 3 window coupe from a guy on another forum; the HAMB. He had bought the 'project' just for the Hemi. He didn't have room or need for another project and didnt want to see it go to the junk yard so I went to indy and bought it from him. I basically got a rolling shell with no interior and everything that could be unbolted from the body was except for the trunk. all doors hood fenders etc were in the body.

the owner prevous to the guy I bought it from was going to make a pro street rod out of it, hence the hemi. he had started this conversion but hacking out the firewall and the drivers side inner fender and cutting unto the floor about 12 inches into the trunk. He must been a handy guy since he used about 17 blobs of liquid nails, 12.5 rivets, and about 9 spot welds to mount the awesome wheel tub he made out of galvanized heat duct sheeting. :)

I hope i don't upset any purist here and I would not be doing this if it hadn't had been so rough when I got, but i planning on making a nice 50's style mild custom out of it. It will have a mildly built 383/727/3.55 suregrip for a drive train. I plan on running airbags all around with a 4 link in the rear. I will be shaving the handles and extending the door trim to cover all the way to the door edge. Other than that i will be painted green witha white interior.

Not planning on doing anything crazy with it, just trying to save a car that has been butchered and left out in the indiana yard to rot.

here are a few pics of it out in the field where the hamber picked it up. the 4th pic is hard to see but it shows the inner fender with the tub installed.

Thanks for the intro and welcome aboard. Looks like you have your work cut out (pun intended) for you. There are a few other forum members in the Atlanta area. Where in Indiana did you find the car?

here are some progress pics so far. the first 2 are the repair of the inner fender. i had to use a plymouth inner fender out of a junk yard car so the fit was not perfect but I got it to work. I still have a few panels to patch on the part. the last is of the engine installed. I had to convert to R&P steering since the big block and the huge steering box didn't fit to weel together. Currently I am rebuilding my front end. I have stripped, painted everything and fabbed up bacg mounts I just need to reassemble everything.

It was located in a small town south of indy off of 64 I think. I can't remember the name. it was a great road trip me and a friend loaded up the truck and trailer and headed that way. stopped in bowling green for the hot rod reunion on sat and drove up to pick up the coupe and drove straight home.

Hi Dvanacek - I may be a bit of a purist - I like 'em stock - but what you've got there is perfect for a project like you've got in mind. It's long past the point of preservation.

I mean, the first thing you'd need would be the right engine - which the other guy kept! Have fun and do your own thing.

(Actually, I'm not a purist. I like "old cars" - as in, cars without perfect paint, perfect upholstery, maybe it's got this year's battery instead of a fake old one, maybe like mine it's got a coil strapped to the air cleaner bracket because replacing the "through the firewall" one is $100. A used car, basically.)

Hi. Welcome. That coupe looks like a b-i-i-g project, but I see you have jumped right in and are making progress. Looks like a good rod candadate to me.

Welcome to the forum and looks like quite a project there.

If I was starting a project like that I would look into modifying it as well.

I like stock and modified, doesn't really matter, just do what you want and enjoy it. As long as your not sending it off to the crusher it sounds great in my book!

:)

Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Hey..I said HI in your previous post..don't tell me you done forgot who I am....

Elko, GA..maybe this will tip you off...welcome..I had asked if you were close to getting your big butt coupe on the road.

Awe man; sorry I missed you reply in the other post. I'm slowly chippin away at things. It seems everything I think will take a few nights takes a few months. How's your coupe comin? We need to get those 2 together when they are back on the road.

I figured you missed my hello, I use my nickname on the HAMB...Like you, slowing coming along...being a 9-5er still yet and with all the other things to do about the house and yard, family etc...I am happy when I do get to go out in the shop. Couple that with this heat and humidity....quality time is a bit tough. We keep plugging, evrytime I get even a minor deed done, it is one less thing I have to do tomorrow..

You have vision, dvanecek. Im anxious to see how it comes out so keep posting pics. I live in Indianapolis and I am restoring an early 49 d24. Its good to see someone take the chance to unseal the fate of an old hack job to put it back where it belongs. 383 is a good motor. A buddy of mine has one in his 70 charger.
