nellybel Posted October 10, 2015 Report Posted October 10, 2015 I just bought a 50 Dodge Coronet Club Coupe, in pieces, with a parts car. The fun begins. I plan to go with a small block Mopar and lower it, after, of course, the requisite rust repair, etc.The flathead that came with it has a number stamped on the block of IND5A257570. It's on the left side, between cyl 1 & 2, right where the number is supposed to be. I can't find ID for that. Can anyone help? Quote
Reg Evans Posted October 10, 2015 Report Posted October 10, 2015 (edited) Google Flathead Six Engine Numbers. Edited October 10, 2015 by Reg Evans 1 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 10, 2015 Report Posted October 10, 2015 IND is usual for industrial. Odds are it is a 230 pull inspection hole on the head at #6 cylinder and measure the stroke.... Quote
greg g Posted October 10, 2015 Report Posted October 10, 2015 What is referenced above is a pipe plug that is screwed into the head above #6 cylinder. Remove it and insert a piece of stiff wire about 8 inches long into the hole. You might need to break through some carbon to get it through but it should go. The wire will ride the piston through its stroke. 4 5/8 = 218, 4 7/8=230. Quote
Reg Evans Posted October 10, 2015 Report Posted October 10, 2015 The flathead 6 engine number page says the IND5A is a 23" 218. For some reason I can't copy/past the link here and I also can't use the quote function. Anybody know why ? Quote
nellybel Posted October 11, 2015 Author Report Posted October 11, 2015 Thank you. I missed the IND numbers in earlier searches because I was mistakenly looking for Dodge numbers. Engine was out and not running when I bought the car, but had clearly been in it. Quote
