MarkAubuchon Posted August 20, 2015 Report Posted August 20, 2015 Just picked up a 48 Desoto sedan. I'm sure it will need a complete brake overhaul. Since I just converted my 49 p17 Business coupe to disc brakes can I use the drums, shoes and cylinders? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 20, 2015 Report Posted August 20, 2015 seriously doubt it..I think there is a very distinct drum size between the models Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted August 20, 2015 Report Posted August 20, 2015 (edited) Plymouth brakes are 10"....DeSoto are 11" unless you want to down size. Edited August 20, 2015 by Dodgeb4ya Quote
Jerry Roberts Posted August 20, 2015 Report Posted August 20, 2015 The wheel bolt pattern is probably different too . Quote
Frank Elder Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 5x4.5 same.....limos and 7 pass are 5x5....right? Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 (edited) Yep^^^^^^^^^...5 X 5 are the big drum hubs and bolt pattern..Chrysler NY and Saratoga, Std Imperials too .Non of these will fit the DeSoto's except if it's a LWB Limo or 7 passenger car. Both very rare. Edited August 21, 2015 by Dodgeb4ya Quote
MarkAubuchon Posted August 21, 2015 Author Report Posted August 21, 2015 That's what I thought 11 vs 10 If you went to the 10 would it be just switch over the backing plate, adjusters, shoes and perhaps the bearings? Are the spindles the same? Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 Swap out just the backing plates and drums. But why do that... won't stop as well. Quote
