linus6948 Posted July 15, 2015 Report Posted July 15, 2015 (edited) I have been looking for a spare carb for my fluid drive D24 coupe for years. I even contacted every antique carb rebuilder/vendor I could find. and I was basically told I`d never find one,as they are as rare as "hen`s teeth". I belong to a FaceBook D24 group and a fellow member was seeking an oil pan for a 47. I was doing him a favor and scouring ebay for a pan for him and literally fell over my carb. I stared at the listing like a mental patient not believing my eyes. A NOS rebuilt Carter BB model D6P1 for $175 with the best offer option. I started at $90 and we went back and forth and agreed on $137.50 shipped. For me it was like finding the "Holy Grail" and the Wife did not complain even a little bit, which was another pleasant surprise. It has some surface rust and a bent adjustment screw but to me it is a beautiful thing. Edited July 15, 2015 by linus6948 1 Quote
_shel_ny Posted July 15, 2015 Report Posted July 15, 2015 (edited) D24 did not use (edit) (a that) Carter unless possibly you have a rare non-fluid drive equipped vehicle. I do not know what carb was used on that set up. Standard equipment for a D24 is the Stromberg BXVD-3 with the dash pot to prevent stalling during deceleration. I stand corrected Edited July 16, 2015 by shel_ny Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 15, 2015 Report Posted July 15, 2015 per the manual I have by my computer, the BB also was available with the dashpot for anti stall in both mechanical and solenoid...though the one mentioned above the D6P1 is listed only for the 49-50 Dodge per application...this is JUST ONE BOOK...JUST ONE SOURCE Quote
linus6948 Posted July 15, 2015 Author Report Posted July 15, 2015 (edited) My book says the same, but I know what carb is on my car and it is a D6P1, I guess it was a suitable replacement for the OEM Stromberg. I rebuilt mine last year and I was told it was only used on the fluid drive models because it had the second dashpot. Here is my carb opened up showing the extra dashpot to prevent stalling in fluid drive cars. I actually sent that dashpot out and had it professionally rebuilt as no one has them for sale. Whether it is really the correct one or not means very little to me, it is the one I`ve always ran, it always run well and now I have a backup, Edited July 15, 2015 by linus6948 Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted July 15, 2015 Report Posted July 15, 2015 That dashpot looks identical to the one in my DTG1 carb.......and Gary Roberts has those in stock. Jeff Quote
wdoland Posted July 15, 2015 Report Posted July 15, 2015 Jeff, how can I get in touch with Gary Roberts? Does he have a web site? I need a dash pot. Thanks, Wayne Quote

Dodgeb4ya Posted July 16, 2015 Report Posted July 16, 2015 Good going on your long search! I think the Carter is a better carburetor too. 1 Quote
meadowbrook Posted July 17, 2015 Report Posted July 17, 2015 The dashpot picture I see here with the purple seal looks kie the accelerator pump on my BB. What am I missing? My D34 has fluid drive but a Carter BB and I was always told the Stromberg was the correct carb. Are we saying there are Carter BB's with a dashpot? Can one be adapted? Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted July 17, 2015 Report Posted July 17, 2015 A lot of the trucks equipped with fluid drives came with a B & B model DTG1. A dash pot carb that looks very similar (but not identical) to the D6P1 pictured above. Jeff Quote
HellYeah Posted July 18, 2015 Report Posted July 18, 2015 Got a vintage Tattersfield dual intake including a pair Carter BB carbs with adjustable main jets. Probably from around 1950 I guess. Quote
