bob westphal Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 Well I finally replaced the turbo mufflers I thought would sound neat on my flattie. They sounded like a tractor instead! I yearned for that throatie sound as I rolled down the lane. That cool rap as I coasted down on compression. There ain't nothin' like a cool set of duals on a flattie six!!!!!!!!! Raaaap, Raaaap!! Normspeed Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 All right! Did you go with Cherry bombs, Smittys, or...? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 Yeah.....inquiring minds want to know. What brand, what length? Quote
knuckleharley Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 Yeah.....inquiring minds want to know. What brand, what length? Yeah, not that we are the kind of juvenile delinquents that would make a lot of noise,or anything. Quote
greg g Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 Hey Knuckle, I believe being on olde F@&+ like I am, that you have the big print and the bold on your text to make it easier to see what yer typin. But it look like yer yellin at me. It is easy to see, but I find it a bit jarring when it opens. Maybe turn of the bold???????? Quote

mackster Posted June 27, 2007 Report Posted June 27, 2007 Hey, I heard that glasspacks are the way to go what size did you used? Quote
claybill Posted June 27, 2007 Report Posted June 27, 2007 glaspaks are definitely the way to go. for the thunder throb, of duals and split manifold!!! they are straight thru design...sound waves travel up and down..exhaust gases travel straight. g-paks are straight thru with packing to absorb the sound. other mufflers with various by-passes and baffles cut the sound and make it more like a pur-r-r-r-r-r-r rather than a rumble! and a lot more quiet. length of muffler is important..and length of headpipe, and split manifold etc, and headwork...all have a play in ex. sound.. smitty's rumble, cherrybombs 'crack'...i prefer the 24" or 28" more mellow. my experience and theories.. bill Quote
claybill Posted June 27, 2007 Report Posted June 27, 2007 a split manifold....the idea here is to split the firing order into 2 separate manifolds. creating 2 distinct sounds, one from each half of the manifold.this creates a distinct and bold sound. turbo mufflers combine rather than split the sound...like a honda motorcycle vs. a harley!!! now we know who has the best sound there!!! the horsepower is better when they are all into one..(like a crossover pipe ). sound is better with separated manifolds. my o-pinion only. bill Quote
mackster Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 I just got my splitted manifold from OLDADDY and it looks sweet! I am putting it in this weekend and still working on the carb set up as I don't have a bsecond carb and I still need the linkage but it's moving along I want to get some glasspacks I thought a 30 in. will do just fine! MAKSTER! Quote

How about give us a report about clearance and fit once you get it mounted? I am considering buying one of his manifolds for my car and would like to know about this. Quote
claybill Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 who is OLDDADDY? websight for the manifolds etc. i might look into this also. claybill Quote
claybill Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 before you buy one...measure. a 30" is real LONG. remember you have connections on each end. are you running 2 complete pipes? gas tank is in the way in some instances. might require 2 different lengths of muffler. 24" 26" are fine and usually fit.. check it out first. most good muffler shops(custom) have nice glaspaks on hand anyway...have him, or yourself, get under and have a look on routing of pipes.. bill i've been there.! bob westphal Posted June 28, 2007 Author Report Posted June 28, 2007 Sorry I missed out on the forum a couple days. The sun was shining in the wet NW so I went out to play and put some miles on Plimmie! I used 26" Cherry bombs. They even sound better with some miles on 'em. Raaaaaap, Raaaaaaap Quote
mackster Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 who is OLDDADDY? websight for the manifolds etc. i might look into this also.claybill Oldaddy is from this website and I think He just got his website up and running, he is working on several new things one I heard of is an adapter to mate a chevy or ford tranny to a flat head mopar. SO you can have your powerglide and still be cool! Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 Charlie is working on reprodcing original Mopar adapters for the flattie using I think a 727 early model tranny. Wilcap I think has adapter for other applictions. Not a fan of cherry bomb brapp, is just a tad above rice-rocket "bugs in a jar" ...give me a deep throated rumble of a turbo pancake anyday...even a Smitty has a nice tone in comparison. What ever happened to the Thrush muffler of mid 60's fame...them and Smitty are dead on for each other in tone quality. Quote
