deathbound Posted March 31, 2015 Report Posted March 31, 2015 Nobody is asking for a sugar coating, just more info in the questions asked sometimes. There more info in the question, the more detailed the response (hopefully). Don't "assume" the person seeking help knows everything. Some on here know little to nothing about these cars/trucks, we're here to help, not discourage. 1 Quote
Don Coatney Posted March 31, 2015 Report Posted March 31, 2015 Shel stated his opinion and I may not agree with all of it but I do respect the fact that he did so without calling anyone rude and hateful. Quote
_shel_ny Posted March 31, 2015 Report Posted March 31, 2015 Information needs to be provided from both ends. Just because the person asking a question knows what they mean, does not mean that the person responding knows what they mean. I get it all the time at home. Like you know that place just before .......................... Just before? Where are you coming from? North, South................ like which way is up, down, over Quote
ggdad1951 Posted March 31, 2015 Report Posted March 31, 2015 let's move on from this aspect of the thread please. Know that we all should be respectful of others, not everyone has all the resources that others do, not all have the knowledge of others, and questions aren't always asked in the way some might like (or answered). your friendly truck side moderator. 3 Quote
1950dodgefan Posted April 1, 2015 Author Report Posted April 1, 2015 Patience and as much information as possible is the way to teach someone in my opinion, I'm glad your experienced worked for you Don, but in a setting like this we don't have that hands on approach and were not building personal friendships per say, which means some things come off as constructive criticism and discussions, and other things come off as rude and unhelpful....there's gotta be a balance. You can read the manual a 100 times, but their written vaugely in some cases because they were designed around the ideals that they were going to established mechanics, not to mention now 60+ years later....what comes apart as nicely as the manual suggests? and what tools have dissapeared from most sets that younger people are using. I know my older buddies all have offset double box end wrenches, I've got bits and pieces from years of collecting, but I never hardly use them,,,,until I need to take my starter bolts out, info like that is lost to kids that buy a new set with colour Chrome tools that look good, and are more metric driven then SAE. I'll give you and Plymouth, there's been some missing info and posts that jump around in this thread that are sometimes frustrating, but his initial posts explain why...he's new to the game and we have to remember we don't all learn the same way, and we don't all have the lingo down the same. ive been trying to get my starter off for weeks so you have to have an offset wrench? what size? and so my truck has the split windows in the doors like the little vent window and stuff does anyone know where i can get parts for these? like replacements and stuff my tracks and everything just need replaced and how do i take apart all the tracks and stuff inside the door?? Jeff Balazs Posted April 1, 2015 Report Posted April 1, 2015 I was able to get mine off with a 12 point socket and a long extension. Don't remember the size? 5/8" perhaps. A crows foot wrench which fits on a 3/8" extension may work as well. If you have some you should spray some penetrating oil on bolts like these to make them a bit easier to remove. Also if you have access to taps and dies you can benefit greatly from chasing threads like these when you have them exposed. Clean threads makes life a lot easier as you progress with things. Roberts has the replenishables for the door windows. I don't know of anyone who makes the hard parts. They are something that either need to be salvaged and reused or found on ebay or swapmeets. There have been several threads on this site with the details and photos for working on this. If you do a simple search you should find plenty to read up on. The lock and latch mechinisms have some heavy springs in them that are quite difficult to find. Be very careful with what you have as none of this stuff is easy or cheap to replace. Hope this helps Jeff Quote

TrampSteer Posted April 1, 2015 Report Posted April 1, 2015 (edited) I know I'm a bit late to this party but ... ... interpreting what your trying to ask ... I was really super careful about identifying the dizzy and parts. Got exactly what I was supposed to at Napa. When I went to put it in, some of it did not fit and some of it was broken. Just part of the adventure. We've all been through that and I think and that makes fundamental questions pretty important. Obvious questions may seem demeaning - even a slight - but it isn't. It would come across differently in a modern engine forum where there are different expectations. Your truck parts might be 60 years old, or made yesterday in some unknown subcontinent. You've got to take that into account. Besides, if you read a lot of these forums, you will find certain people super-knowledgeable, funny, entertaining and something to look forward to seeing. And, snarky or not, I don't think anyone should be asked to throttle their personality back. Nuff said. Edited April 1, 2015 by TrampSteer 1 Quote

Which parts are you looking for? There are several vendors out there that cover MOST of what we need, but it's specific to what item you are looking for. my order for removing parts in the door: roll down window glass front guide for roll down window regulator door latch re- install reverse that order. If you visit the "Resources" tab above you can go to the "DPTECA" tab then "Pilot's Knowledge" and find an on-line version of the parts catalog which you may find helpful to identify parts you need to replace and nomenclature. NiftyFifty Posted April 2, 2015 Report Posted April 2, 2015 You most likely need new channel rubbers, if they have broken down they could be rubbing badly, Roberts Motor Parts is a good choice for a lot of those parts, they can help you with what you need. You also need new window setting tape to put the window back into the regulator, that I'm not sure they sell. http://dodgepilothouseclub.com/know/B4_manual/manual.htmClick on the body link for some help with the install Quote

Quote
NiftyFifty Posted April 5, 2015 Report Posted April 5, 2015 Rollers should be the same, I'd think...worth s shot. I don't think I've ever seen replacements, but don't be scared to check out some Ford truck websites....some of their parts seem kinda close. If not your going to have to get them from another regulator Quote
