Okay, can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong.  I've been looking at this for hours and can't figure out what I need to do.  It feels like the throttle linkage should push toward the carb, and yet the linkage pulls away.  Also the linkage has grown two or three inches while sitting in the garage.

Cant see it completely clearly in this photo but it sure looks like mine is the same as yours.

The spring holds the throttle closed, Opening the throttle increases spring tension. Looks as if you have been adjusting the turnbuckle?

Also I have never seen a oil pressure line like the one you are using. I don't know it that is a good application for polyflo tubing.

Looks like the throttle valve lever on your carb is about 45 degrees off.  It should be pointed towards the outside of the car, vs. towards the engine.  Everything else is right.

My setup seems to be just like Shel_NY

It still feels like the rod going to the carb is 2 or 3 inches long maybe I used a rod from the other engine.

I'll try new a new rod or find another one.

I believe that you will find that to be the problem. The rod that you show differs from both mine and Eds. Ours have the clip on one end rather than the ball and socket set up the you show.

What is that cable/wire wrapped around the butterfly linkage on your carburetor? Choke cable? Heater valve cable? Looks like it is holding your butterfly open. I have no such wire on my carburetors.

Thanks for the pictures.  It seems that I need to look for the right parts as I try to put this thing back on the road.

Apparently any organizational skills that I may acquired during my 20 years in the Army have gone away.

Note to self and new people on this site:  Ask one question at a time and you'll get great answers.

At one time, my linkage was like this......with the return spring pulling toward the rear.  And it worked just fine.

Don't know who set it up or any thing else about it.

Is the choke cable in the last picture.............attached to that rod with a makeshift piece

When I went to Andy Bernbaum, to check what they had, there was a note to call because every year was different.

I have a parts manual and I never check-duh.

Can't find a picture.......but my linkage is now hooked up like the picture from the manual.

Son in law changed it when he had stuff off, cleaning and re-painting the engine following the tornado damage.

It works fine, but I would like to someday put it back incorrect so I don't have to hook the return spring to the

brace for the air cleaner.  I was using the air cleaner with NO brace just to eliminate some clutter from the

engine..    Not sure I now have all the old pieces removed from the incorrect installation......and have not been

in the mood to re-trace or re-create the arrangement.....yet.

That would be the throttle cable.

LATE RESPONSE

Thank everyone for their help.  Found the right linkage in a box of carb parts.  Not the one that I put aside so that I would never lose it, but another.  Now it looks just like Shel_ny and the "Parts Manual"
