frankrizzo Posted March 13, 2015 Report Posted March 13, 2015 (edited) I've wanted a '50 Suburban or fastback for a long time, but I find when looking on line for one that the model number designations are often misused/interchanged. When I see an ad for a '50 Plymouth and ask the seller if it's a club coupe, business coupe, fastback, sedan, or wagon; I sometimes get responses like "it's a Deluxe" or "it's a p20." And I hate to sound like a picture-collector asking them again for pictures of the car... From what I've seen on sites like allpar, in 1950 there were two different wheelbase Plymouths. The 111"wb was available as a business coupe, fastback coupe, and the Suburban. The 118"wb was the 4 door sedan, the 4 door woodie wagon, the club coupe, and a convertible. The confusion for me is that apparently most of these bodystyles were available as a Deluxe or Special Deluxe, and some websites say p19 was the short wheelbase and p20 was the long wheelbase without differentiating between the different bodystyles. I looked at the p15 spotter's guide on the reference part of the forums but it only goes up to 1948... So, is there a definitive list of code/model designations (i.e., p17 is the fastback, p20 is the 4 door sedan, etc) for 1950 (or '49-'50) cars? Edited March 13, 2015 by frankrizzo Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 13, 2015 Report Posted March 13, 2015 P17 - 1949 : P19 - 1950 : P22 - 1951/52 these are the 111 wheelbase designators however the engines will be stamped for the 118 wheelbase designators Quote
Young Ed Posted March 13, 2015 Report Posted March 13, 2015 You will also run into 1950 being the last year of a woodie station wagon and the second year of the all metal wagon. I believe the metal one would be a p19 and the woodie a p20. I believe your list of model #s correct and the short WB ones are the p19 and the long ones p20. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 13, 2015 Report Posted March 13, 2015 I think they are identified with pics & model numbers in the front of the service/repair manual. And...you are finding out people don't really know what they have. Most Plymouths came in the cheaper Deluxe model and the better Special Deluxe. Quote
RUSTYSNACK Posted April 16, 2015 Report Posted April 16, 2015 HMM so my 1950 Plymouth deluxe club coupe is a p19 with 118" wheel base?I'm new to this site as well as MOPAR and this is my first vintage build anyways.I was wondering myself which model code i had and couldn't find a reference on it anywhere that covered 1950+ Quote
