Niel Hoback Posted February 16, 2015 Report Posted February 16, 2015 Great picture!! That first one reminded me of the 54 ford 350 I drove for the mill supply in Gary. It had the same kind of pipe racks on the fenders. You don't see those anymore. Thanks for the brain jog. 1 Quote
1940plymouth Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 I like the "air boat" Is it a Kaiser or Frazier I wonder? Quote
BigDaddyO Posted February 17, 2015 Author Report Posted February 17, 2015 I don't know but it's a pretty serious contraption. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 (edited) In your second post, the "Black Mariah" has the radiator shape of a Buick. On the airboat, I hadn't thought of the K/F cars, because it struck me as a bathtub Nash. Yeah, lotta work in that. Edited February 17, 2015 by Niel Hoback Quote

On the airboat, I hadn't thought of the K/F cars, because it struck me as a bathtub Nash. Yeah, lotta work in that. Sirs, the 3rd picture in the 1st posting is not any american car, but Soviet product made by using GAZ M20 car body and some (Polikarpov?) airplane parts. It was a Soviet Union army project in the late 50's. I do not think it ever lead to any practical usable vehicle. It was aimed for tundra travel, but was too unstable, not really steerable. The GAZ M20 "Popeda" car was produced in large number from 1946 to end of 50's, sported ca. 2 litre (129cu.in) flathead inline four. Looked like this:is: 2 Quote
Niel Hoback Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 That is a neat looking little car. But you have to admit it does have some resemblance to a bathtub Nash. Hey, do the seats lay down? Thanks for the picture, we have some interest in eastern bloc cars. 1 Quote
Ulu Posted February 19, 2015 Report Posted February 19, 2015 That actually seems a nice, sleek design for a Soviet, except where they blew it on the lower door hinges. Quote
BigDaddyO Posted February 19, 2015 Author Report Posted February 19, 2015 Thanks Uncle-Pekka. Great info and picture. 1 Quote
Uncle-Pekka Posted February 19, 2015 Report Posted February 19, 2015 You're welcome! Odd enough, some sources tell, that Walter P Chrysler sold the 201 six blueprints to russians and that they were used as basis to design the 4-banger they used in the GAZ M20. There was also a six used in GAZ trucks and light tank, it was supposed to be a copy of the 201 unit... Let's move on with MoPars: This guy has "all the bells & whistles" - also a proud drivers cap matching with the 'Soto. 1 Quote

Plymouthy Adams Posted February 19, 2015 Report Posted February 19, 2015 look at it in another perspective...seems he is awaiting his next customer in front of a café..what does that say for the food..would you pull in to dine with an ambulance parked at the ready??? 1 Quote
DonaldSmith Posted February 19, 2015 Report Posted February 19, 2015 Look at the shine on that car! And the white trim rings for the blackwalls. The car might be a long-wheelbase sedan, with the Sedambulance modification. Here's a DeSoto ambulance: Quote

Uncle-Pekka Posted February 19, 2015 Report Posted February 19, 2015 Plymouth version. Hmm... Hedge-hog on the fender and a clown reaching from behind? Did you buy this from the photo-shop? Quote

Mark D Posted February 19, 2015 Report Posted February 19, 2015 (edited) I beleive the proper term for this car is "sedambulance". Look at the shine on that car! And the white trim rings for the blackwalls. The car might be a long-wheelbase sedan, with the Sedambulance modification.
