Gnome Posted September 29 Report Posted September 29 I have a 9 /14 axle out of my ramcharger with a 5 x 4.5 lug pattern that taking up space. It measure ~63" with the drums on end to end. assuming i would need to get different wheels would that fit? What would i have to do to make it work. I believe they are 3.55 gears in it. I have searched but mostly come up with ranger, jeep or explorer axles. Quote
Los_Control Posted September 29 Report Posted September 29 The reason for the jeep or explorer axles is the width .... I'm guessing here but think I remember about 58". So your axle centered would make the tires/wheels stick out 2.5" on each side .... no idea how that works with your fenders. I can say a different guy had a 3/4 truck with 5 on 5 bolt pattern and used a Silverado rear end that was wider. He used Cadillac rims with a reverse offset and thought it was a perfect match .... it is doable. Depending on your engine/transmission, 3:55 might be to steep for a stock setup .... 3:73 is the sweet spot. Sometimes free is not cheap ..... You might be able to shorten your axles .... 9.25 is overkill for a stock 90hp engine. Probably just cheaper to hunt down the right part for the job. 1 Quote
Sniper Posted September 30 Report Posted September 30 (edited) Later model Mopar rims like on the 2009 Challenger have a deeper offset and that's what I'm running on the back of my 51 Plymouth with extra wide tires. But they're 17 in rims. Some of the Mustang 15" rims have similar offsets and the right bolt pattern but the centering hole is too small. I imagine if you decided you wanted to go that route you could take the flanges off the axles down to a machine shop and have them turn that Center and ring down the fit not sure what you do on the front though I guess you could do the same thing but you have to separate the drums from the flanges Edited September 30 by Sniper 1 Quote
