Robin (UK) Posted July 28, 2014 Report Posted July 28, 2014 Saw my friend's 41 DeSoto for the first time, this weekend. It's a right hand drive (South African car), with a Plymouth body, badged as a DeSoto. A crate 426 hemi has been installed, but everything's been done to keep it looking as stock as possible. Apart from the radial tires, wider rims, big tailpipes, and the enormous exhaust dumps inside the fenders, for open headers, you'd never know. I'll get more pictures when I see it again. 1 Quote
Robin (UK) Posted July 28, 2014 Author Report Posted July 28, 2014 Yes.Even inside.Original gauges, steering wheel, column and gear shifter. The only clue is that there's no clutch pedal. Quote
greg g Posted July 28, 2014 Report Posted July 28, 2014 Starting a "moonshiner's ring"? That car might surely come handy. 3 Quote

Don Coatney Posted July 28, 2014 Report Posted July 28, 2014 Robin, I strongly suggest you do not tell the Hemi powered car owner about your beech racing activities. If he enters you will most likely lose 1 Quote
Robin (UK) Posted July 28, 2014 Author Report Posted July 28, 2014 (edited) Luckily, Don, he'd be competing in a different class (in every sense!) He tells me that the car's so fast he's going to change the gearing to slow it down a bit! Edited July 28, 2014 by Robin (UK) Quote
Robin (UK) Posted July 28, 2014 Author Report Posted July 28, 2014 No, Greg. It's just badged as a DeSoto. Quote
Andydodge Posted July 28, 2014 Report Posted July 28, 2014 Come on Robin......we want pics and a full road test........lol........actually I'm curious how he's done the stock column and a Hemi......did he build it?.....andyd 1 Quote
Robin (UK) Posted July 28, 2014 Author Report Posted July 28, 2014 It was built by Burnham Autos. The project started about a year ago and is only just completed.I got all the original parts that were taken off and the RHD exhaust manifiold and steering box were donated to another friend with a stock 41 Plymouth, who was desperately in need of them.
