RobertKB Posted December 20, 2013 Report Posted December 20, 2013 (edited) So what is the 400 going in, Tim?? Motor need a rebuild? Weather sounds great. No wind here either but not shirt sleeve weather. LOL Edited December 20, 2013 by RobertKB Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 20, 2013 Author Report Posted December 20, 2013 (edited) I will probably go through the engine. Robert...after a tune up and a carb changed it started and ran like a top after sitting some 8 years....no smoke...smooth idle....Slated for install in the 1962 Polara 500, it is an original big block car...just happy to have this behind me so I can get this car out and gone from the house...it was a freebie so I cannot complain...it was I think the easiest method to drop it out from below as I need the brakes, tranny and rear axle also... Don Coatney Posted December 20, 2013 Report Posted December 20, 2013 How far did you drop it? It was 55 when I left home this morning. About 35 with snow on the ground now. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 20, 2013 Author Report Posted December 20, 2013 I raised the car and palced it on jack stand on the front frame rails abut parallel with the fender/door gap......then I relieved the torision bars, removed rear torsion bar cross member...removed the torsion bars as they are sold already. Then removed the upper a-arms but did so by removing the plates..removed the shocks and brake lines...dropped rear drive shaft joint....of course engine wiring is removed..then I supported the K-member and removed the four large bolts...then removed the rear tranny cross member bolts...let it down a bit in the back..then in the front a bit...more in the back and then back to lower the front....lowered it on a dolly so I could roll it out...I would say I dropped it about 14 inches then lifted the body and rolled the engine and tranny and driveshaft out as one piece...let the front down and put my trailer back of the car...used the power winch and between pulling it up a bit, shift the front ..pull a bit and so forth I loaded the pup...was a fun day...It was 29 this morning...I did not go out to do this till about 12:10...it was nice by then and got even nicer...by 2:00 was in shirt sleeves and sweating...lol Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 20, 2013 Report Posted December 20, 2013 I once removed a slant 6 engine from a Dodge van by dropping it on the ground. Engine went back in through the side door Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 20, 2013 Author Report Posted December 20, 2013 I have had my hand in doing two van engine changes through the side doors...not my idea of having fun... I have one 360 engine and 727 on site in a van now for possible donor down the line..right now it serves as a driving storage shed for Spits parts Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 21, 2013 Author Report Posted December 21, 2013 just returned from dropping the body off to its new owner.....stopped by on the way back for BBQ.....and all before the rain sets in tomorrow...glad that is off my shoulders... Quote
Niel Hoback Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 Good job! BBQ is a good reward for doing a nasty job. Quote
