RobertKB Posted December 12, 2013 Report Posted December 12, 2013 Too bad, so sad. I keep saying...............get your projects, parts cars or parts while you can. Soon will not be much left out there! http://www.oldcarsweekly.com/car-reports-values/auction-sold-prices/crusher-big-winner-lende-collection-sale?et_mid=652397&rid=241897252 Quote
ChrisRice Posted December 13, 2013 Report Posted December 13, 2013 It is kind of sad. To me it I like putting down an elderly person... They should be saved and kept around as long as possible. Quote
Uncle-Pekka Posted December 13, 2013 Report Posted December 13, 2013 (edited) Headline of auction news: "100% of the Chryslers were crushed, 100% of the Oldsmobiles were saved" 1949 Plymouth Special Deluxe 4d Sed, 6-cyl, 3-spd, to crush $325 51952 Plymouth Cranbrook 2d Sed, to crush $325 61954 Plymouth Belvedere 4d Sed, Without drivetrain, to crush $325 51955 Plymouth Savoy 4d Sed, V-8, to crush $325 41959 Plymouth Belvedere 4d Sed, V-8, to crush $325 51959 Plymouth Plaza 2d Sed, to crush $325 51959 Plymouth Savoy 4d Sed, to crush $325 51959 Plymouth Fury 4d Sed, to crush $325 51972 Plymouth Satellite 4d Sed, to crush $325 5 $330 would have saved any of the above 50's Plym's... Not too much asked? Well, I know; the towing, no room to keep them... Still. Once they've been crushed, no return ever. Edit: I may be more surprised for the fate of the below Chebbies, than above Plym's, Considering the money the poor condition 50's Chevy project cars bring at eBay ... 1946 Chevrolet Fleetmaster 4d Sed, to crush $325 6 1949 Chevrolet 3100 2d PU, $350 6 1949 Chevrolet Styleline 4d Sed, Without drivetrain, to crush $325 6 1950 Chevrolet Deluxe 4d Sed, to crush $325 6 1952 Chevrolet Styleline 4d Sed, to crush $325 6 1953 Chevrolet Bel Air 4d Sed, $350 4 1953 Chevrolet Bel Air 4d Sed, to crush, 6-cyl $325 6 1954 Chevrolet Deluxe 210 4d Sed, to crush $325 6 1956 Chevrolet 210 4d Sed, to crush $325 6 -Sy.dpuf Edited December 13, 2013 by Uncle-Pekka Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 13, 2013 Report Posted December 13, 2013 (edited) anyone here could have easily bid and saved one maybe two of these cars if they so desired...ah..the key words maybe..."so desired" The general attitude is no matter how rust and picked over the car has an inherent value.......ONLY and if only you have the time room and such to buy and store and hold out for a possible small part sale would you be able to make anything..but given the same money maybe a car that is complete, maybe even running albeit a bit rough...the money to be made on a quick flip more than rules out the long term holding of junk that is as some show...without drivetrains...I assure if the 59's were salvageable they would have been snagged as there are a couple shop that are dedicated to these models and buy from all over the US..like everyone else I hate to see this but it is just a matter of business and making money...nostalgia measured in dollars...its a very unrealistic sliding scale... 48ply1stcar Posted December 16, 2013 Report Posted December 16, 2013 We are a dying breed. Those of us who enjoy old cars and see potential in that old iron are few. The cars that we enjoy today will only see another generation of onwers if the cars contain all the bells and whistles of today's automobiles. I started to write a long sad story about my car and what might be. After a few sentences I held down the backspace key until I reached the begining of this paragraph. Maybe someday, someone will want my old car, but it won't be the same. Quote
Grdpa's 50 Dodge Posted December 16, 2013 Report Posted December 16, 2013 Being closer than MANY of you,,,If I had seen this BEFORE it happened. I guess I could have saved one or two good parts cars. it would have helped immensely if it was a 'perfect' match to what I am working on it improves my motivation. In other words I find myself working on a 2 dr 50 and I already own a 49 4 dr parts donor which I find the things I need dont fit, Hoping some day to do a trade so I can justify keeping it around for 10-15 years. Not that it owes me so much, just the way I feel. I paid $200 for it on a clean out sale of a 75 car or so collection from retirement I think. I see parts prices and thinking I will drag it out next spring and disassemble every screw and bolt possible. The 'prob;em' I have is I lost all my storage space for misc junk too valuable to throw away. A shed on the cheap would fix that I spose. Quote
