I just read in an article that in '54 Plymouth offered a power steering unit. It appears it could be dealer installed. What is the history, reliability and availability of this unit.

I thought every '54 Plymouth came with "Armstrong" power steering. Yes, I believe Plymouth did offer power steering as an option in '54 and I also believe forum member BobT-47P15 had a '54 Plymouth with that option but sold it quite a while ago.

I parted out a 54  P/S plymouth years ago and still have the frame cylinder mount and linkage.

Dodgeb4ya, This is interesting, I have a 54 Plymouth and have been looking for power steering. You have a piston and bracket, how is it mounted to the frame is it welded or bolted? Thanks

This week end I'll try to dig up what I have left of the PS frame  bracket and linkage.

I have a generator/ power steering pump. It came off a c53 Engine, I do not know the condition. It has a belt pulley.

Thanks for your reply.

I don't think the unit off a 53 Chrysler would work, and my manuals are at the mechanic's shop, so for now i'll pass.  But i did find a Power Steering Seal 8PGY33 that fits 54 Ply (happy to pass the seller's link on if anyone needs it - he has 8 of them).  My cylinder is leaking in three places (1) top and bottom at pitman arm.
(2) at the rod.  Pix i have are too large to attach (am trying to figure out how to reduce them)
