U-joint alleignment with the transmission

What is new information to me is old to many, but to those like me here is some use full information. U-joints by the nature of there use must be in sync or they work against themselves. If you hear clanging u-joints they are out of sync and obviously will not last very long.

 

So what's to do. There is supposed to be an arrow on the propeller (drive ) shaft and the spined shaft form the transmission. Line up these two arrows. See vintage power wagon's parts book, page 45 for details.

this is useful info. I would have never guessed the splines had to be matched. I wonder if the OD trans would have this arrow too!

Does this also apply to the trunnion type joint??

per the picture in the book...the drive shaft is welded so that the trunnion pins stay in phase to each other
