OldDad67 Posted September 23, 2013 Report Posted September 23, 2013 I'm getting ready to purchase a headliner for my 49 1st series club coupe. Who do you recommend as a vendor. I did a search but it left me more confused than I already am. Thanks in advance. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted September 23, 2013 Report Posted September 23, 2013 Get in touch with WLS Headliners of Hazlehurst, GA. Talk to Lera Smith: 888-381-9805. They will send you samples of the material they use. They also have a website. Quote
Robert Horne Posted September 23, 2013 Report Posted September 23, 2013 I got my headliner material from Walmart, a good quality blanket. It has a little stretch, looks great, and not difficult to install. A good blanket is really two liners back to back with seams hidden stitching every two or three inchs apart. Easy to install the rods where they need to go.... Quote
desoto1939 Posted September 23, 2013 Report Posted September 23, 2013 I got my headline from Restoration Supply in Windber PA. They make them for each specif car and it was right on the money and fit perfectly. They are a great compnay to deal with and are at Hershey and all the major car shows. And Robert I like your Walmart idea but I'm no good at making things from scratch. Your blanket looks great, but I need the premade things, I can screw them up enough. Quote
Brandon S Posted September 24, 2013 Report Posted September 24, 2013 SMS Auto Fabrics or LeBarron Bonney also makes them- lots of original fabrics in the original patterns. Quote

They will sell them for $366.00 to the public and are the supplier for Perfict Fit who will sell you the same one for $231.00 plus shipping. I tried Pro-Antique auto but thier phone number is no good. Restoration Specialties will sell you a headliner for $220.00. SMS in Canby Oregon will sell you one for $249.00. I called WLS Headliners and left a message. I'll keep you posted for further updates. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 25, 2013 Report Posted September 25, 2013 I should have been more clear on the fact I am not in need at this time..just reporting some of the runaround I got when inquiring...number of companies would not even bother to call you back when asked to leave a message....I did use WLS in Hazlehurst GA as they are not far a drive from me..I also requested that they please sew the headliner out of fabric I supplied, not that the fabric they use in not good....would not make that statement/call..it was just not what I wanted for my headliner is all...lol They had the headliner, visors and windlace returned to me within 10 days sewn with extra material in the places I requested..with my remnant material in the box with the headliner. With the slight mod I made to the inside of the car...their headliner fit excellent... Quote
JerseyHarold Posted September 25, 2013 Report Posted September 25, 2013 Many manufacturers will quote the public list price or more if the customer is trying to deal direct. The theory is that the manufacturer is protecting the interest of their distributor by making the distributor's price look good. Quote

Well, That is very odd. They must have changed their policy since I last ordered from them. I have been buying from them for 30 years, although the last one I got from them was about 7 years back. Plymouthy Adams Posted September 27, 2013 Report Posted September 27, 2013 (edited) I contacted them by phone and informed them that my trimmer referred me to contact them direct for purchase and even giving my trimmers name, location and phone number..it cut no ice with them...but hey that is ok...there are reasons for that...first and most obvious is that the owner is not an experienced trimmer and should the install go wrong..they do not want to be stuck in the middle for a faulty material charge be it real or caused by the owner trying to do the work...while disappointing it is never the end of the road or the proverbial brick wall..one just continues the search...WLS upon talking to them were very helpful and stated they would use the fabric of my choice but only after they see it and test for proper bilateral stretch qualities....it passed with flying colors.....am very pleased with their headliner and visor service.. I just sent a sample of my door panel material to WLS for a possible color match for my headliner. I'll let you know what they say about price plus windlass and visor material. I assume that if a company doesn't want my business, or wants to overcharge me I won't waste my money or time with them. I'm refering to ACME, guess they don't need my business. Quote

I'm refering to ACME, guess they don't need my business. Here's the latest update: They will do my visors in new material, provide me with the correct amount of windlace to do both front doors, add 1 extra yard of material in case I screw up plus the new headliner for $224.98 total for everything. They have my business! Thanks to all who responded and thank you Joe Flanagan for recommending WLS Headliners. If this turns out well I will let you know if it doesn't I will have driven into the sea. (Pacific)! Quote

chopt50wgn Posted October 23, 2013 Report Posted October 23, 2013 I emailed SMS Fabrics in Oregon. Their contact is Doug Pollock and he said he could make me a headliner for my 50 Ply wagon. They have the patterns and is not a problem....he said $259.00. I asked him if they could match the same material I already had in my new backseat. I sent them a sample of the vinyl my seat was done in and they said it could be matched. The price went to $275. I figured that was a decent price as the guy who did my seat wanted close to $650. I guess it pays to have these older patterns in stock Quote
