Don Jordan Posted July 9, 2013 Report Posted July 9, 2013 I apologize for lingering in the 20th century - it truly prevents me from appreciating some of the new improvements. I just noticed a little red number on the upper right corner of the home page. I clicked on it and there was a list of some very nice comments (which I am unfamiliar with here). Problem is I don't really know the protocol. I don't know how to reply or if it is necessary. I use Netscape which I believe was started during the Civil War (when I was younger) and I have found it doesn't do all the functions available on this forum. Nothing comes up when I click on Resources or Members. So I guess it's possible I'm missing something in the Notifications area as well. So if I have offended anyone by not responding I truly apologize. 3 Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 9, 2013 Report Posted July 9, 2013 Notifications notify you of several things. If someone clicks on the (like this) box below one of your postings you will get a notification. If someone adds there name to the members map you will get a notification. To see how many likes you have accumulated park your mouse over your name and a new box will open. The number in green below your name indicates the number of "likes" you have. You can check the number of likes that any forum member has by parking your mouse over there name. If you click on the "liked the post you made" once you get a notification it will direct you to the posting you made. You can respond there if you feel the urge. You will notice that you now have a new notification as I just liked the above posting. Quote
P15-D24 Posted July 9, 2013 Report Posted July 9, 2013 DJ, you might want to switch browsers to FIrefox or Chrome. The software that runs this site is using many new features in PHP, javascript and HTML5. These are the technology building blocks used for modern web sites. However to take advantage of them your need a browser that supports them. Firefox and Chrome are two free browsers that also support older versions of Windows. Quote
greg g Posted July 10, 2013 Report Posted July 10, 2013 (edited) I recently had my computer deloused by a antivirus guy. He saw that I had Chrome on my desktop and asked if I used it. I told him that I usually use FireFox. He commented that Google nGoogle chrome are the most porous search and browser as far as letting viruses and malware through. He told me Fire Fox is more diligent regarding protecting users from infections. I have no other information supporting this point of view but he says most of his business comes from folks using Chrome as their default browser, but while he was here he uninstalled Chrome, and I use yahoo and Excite as search engines. Don Coatney Posted July 10, 2013 Report Posted July 10, 2013 I was told by my puter guru that chrome has an incognato feature thet prevents anyone form seeing your identification thus preventing virus attacks. But you must select to use this feature Quote
