Hi all 1946 S11 seven pass limo.

I'm baffled. New trans mounts, new engine mount in front. No slop in drive shaft. Something is bouncing badly up and down when the clutch is let out. Fwd or reverse doesn't matter. Any things to check you all can think of? If I let the clutch out fast it's less pronounced.

Thanks

Guy

Have someone look while you move car forward and backwards. Ought to be obvious. Rear spring wrap up with chattering clutch?

chatter is usually caused by foreign material on the friction disc in classic symptoms.  Most likely culprit is a leaky rear main seal.  But could be improperly installed or over tightened rear motor mounts, A funky universal, or an out of phase drive shaft.  Remove your dust cover on the bell housing, and check the friction disc, try rotating your dive shaft 180 degrees on one end or the other, or if you have the same U joints on both ends try flipping it end for end.

Do you have a new pressure plate and clutch assy?

Also check the center driveshaft carrier bearing rubber support insulator and that it is not deteriorated  and loose letting the drive shafts wobble.

Thanks for all the thoughts. I'm going to have someone watch or drive and observe. I'm thinking clucth also. The center driveshaft mount is tight and the u joints are all good.

I wonder if spraying the clutch with brake cleaner would help.

Worn bushings in your rear leaf springs, either at the front mount or at the rear shackles, can also cause chattering.
