Brad Lustig Posted May 21, 2007 Report Posted May 21, 2007 That sounds an awful lot like a "quota". I thought cops didn't have quotas? Quote
greg g Posted May 21, 2007 Report Posted May 21, 2007 They spent today doing school zones. News had a couple snooks caught for 45 in a 20. They deserve what they get. I usually drive very cautiously in the village and heavily populated areas. Brad, the new jargon is "Targeted Enforcement". They have target the portion of a state highway that runs at the end of my driveway. 10 or 12 folks everyday get their invitations to the policeman's ball. Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted May 22, 2007 Report Posted May 22, 2007 Quota, I don't have a quota, I can give as many tickest as I want. Dennis:D Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted May 22, 2007 Report Posted May 22, 2007 Don't know about NY but around here they really don't have a quota either. However, on holiday weekends they put extra police on the road. They really don't want to give more tickets, they just want to slow everyone down and make them drive safe because of the increased traffic. Quote
Normspeed Posted May 22, 2007 Report Posted May 22, 2007 Shel, I wish they would take a shot at enforcing all of those and more around my neck of the woods. Seems like the CHP and the locals have pretty much given up on traffic enforcement except for the occasional radar trap. I've had two near misses in the past two weeks from aggressive drivers cutting across multiple lanes at high speed. Last Friday I almost got broadsided by one while on my motorcycle, right here in town. It's anarchy! Quote

(at least that's where I've been traveling) So it's not just a holiday weekend thing right now. Other Norm, May is supposed to be Motorcycle Awareness Month here in Wisconsin. But I don't see the state promoting it at all. That's why we practice and preach to ride defensively as motorcyclists. Merle Quote

Merle Merle, That section of I-94 has always been a speed trap as far back as the 70's when speed limits were down to 55 MPH. Use to make a lot of trips visiting our St. Paul office and would travel that section at least once or twice a month. Back when the speed limits were down to 55 use to play cat and mouse with them all the time on the CB. They would listen in and if you gave out their position they would say that's illegal and say they are going to pull you over. Use to tell them to come on, I'm at mile marker so and so. Of course, I wasn't at that marker. Lot of guys use to do that to them up in that area. Especially just south of Eau Claire. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 22, 2007 Report Posted May 22, 2007 this may be of help to some..cell phones and state laws..how current????? http://www.legalmatch.com/law-library/article/cell-phone-use-laws.html Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted May 22, 2007 Report Posted May 22, 2007 California passed a law that bans driving while holding a cell phone. The law goes into effect in '08. Here on Fort Irwin the Base has baned cell phone use while driving. Dennis Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 22, 2007 Report Posted May 22, 2007 Same on our base here at Robins...I can see where this is a major concern with a base wide speed limit of 35MPH...(we have over 20,000 people on base daily) so it is congestion, not speed in our local. Quote
Normspeed Posted May 22, 2007 Report Posted May 22, 2007 Dennis the silly part of the CA cellphone law is the amount of the fine for first offense, $25 if I'm not mistaken. And with no enforcement, what are the chances of anyone ever getting a ticket once, much less twice? Merle, I agree, my motto is, ride like everyone was out to get ya. If I hadn't been driving that way last Friday I'd be in intensive care or on a slab right now. The driver? In an SUV of course. Both recent near misses were with SUVs. Superman syndrome. Quote
