Is This A Mopar?

Found this photo in my late Mum's papers — probably taken 58 years ago this week on my first car ride, coming home from the hospital.

My first thought was Packard, as Dad had several in the '40s and '50s. On second look though, the dash and windshield area are similar to my '47 D25 and I wonder if it could be an earlier Dodge or Plymouth. I know Dad had at least one such animal, which he later recalled... "wouldn't start whenever the sun went behind a cloud."

The upper rear door opening suggests coupe, and reflecting the season there is a frost shield on the driver's side windshield.

Bingo!

Thanks, Ed that looks like it. Here are photos from Google of 1939 and 1940 Plymouth and 1940 Dodge dashes... the '40 Plymouth in the middle is a dead ringer for the one in my birth week photo.

The driver side windshield appears to have some sort of 'extra' layer either inside or out...ice guard or ?? any clues?

In the original post Bamford's Garage called it a frost shield. If I recall correctly he fitted those on his car before last year's arctic trip too.

That's right — frost shields were quite common around here up into the '60s, and make a huge difference if one has marginal heat and defrost. I have newly-manufactured plastic ones inside my front door and rear windows, and installed safety-glass exterior second layers on both windshields.
