41/53dodges Posted March 30, 2013 Report Posted March 30, 2013 There is a bracket on the 53 I cant figure out, it is riveted to the frame and looks factory. Anybod know what it was for? Quote
HanksB3B Posted March 30, 2013 Report Posted March 30, 2013 I'll take a crack at it, it's looks just about right for a car antenna. Got Radio? Hank Quote
41/53dodges Posted March 30, 2013 Author Report Posted March 30, 2013 Never had radio, and that bracket is under the front driver corner of the bed! perhaps for some kind of tie down hook? Quote
Scruffy49 Posted March 30, 2013 Report Posted March 30, 2013 I'll check mine in the morning and see if it has it, and if so, what if anything is hooked to it. Quote
JBNeal Posted March 30, 2013 Report Posted March 30, 2013 I don't recall seeing anything like that on any of the frames I've collected...it appears to have a thicker material than the frame, so I'm guessing that it is not factory-installed. I recall that Dad bought a former highway department truck at an auction back in the 80s; in its former life, it had a liquid tank mounted in the bed as it was used to spray weed killer along the roads' edges. The pump/valves/etc. were controlled with cables & levers from the uninsulated cab, so there were all kinds of brackets (some with pulleys) under the bed for all of that hardware. Ya might be looking at something similar, it might have been part of a spare tire carrier or tool box or whuthavya. Quote
rt338b12 Posted March 30, 2013 Report Posted March 30, 2013 My 53 has it also but no idea what is for Quote
HanksB3B Posted March 30, 2013 Report Posted March 30, 2013 My 53 has it also but no idea what is for Puzzled..then I'd have to guess it's stock for 53......a ground connection? Another Mopar Mystery, Hank Quote
JBNeal Posted March 30, 2013 Report Posted March 30, 2013 CORRECTION: this bracket IS factory installed because of restricted access to the bed bolt by the redesigned fuel tank for the B-4s. The new tank rides right up against the frame rail; for all other Pilot-Houses, the tank is far enough away from the frame rail that there is ample tool access. The passenger side of the bed does not require this bracket because the tank is not in the way. So the B-4 has a slightly different bed mounting pattern in the lumber than the previous B-series. MYSTERY SOLVED Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted March 30, 2013 Report Posted March 30, 2013 That rivit is the clue that it's most likely a factory install. Quote
48Dodger Posted March 31, 2013 Report Posted March 31, 2013 Very cool. I only have 48-50's and one 52 frame..... So the verdict is only the 53's? Do you have that too Hank? 48D Quote
HanksB3B Posted March 31, 2013 Report Posted March 31, 2013 (edited) Good write-up JB. Tim my truck is a 51 so I guess it started in 53 if your 52 doesn't have it. Hank Edited March 31, 2013 by HanksB3B Quote
