For Tim Adams and whoever. Attach are pictures of a wrangler wheel I have. They show the inside diameter of the hub at 2 3/4" and the depth at 2". The width at 14" and the wheel depth at 5 1/2 " I am looking at a set of Cherokee Canyon rims.

Question: will these fit my '52 truck. I have a Volare rotor on Charlies discs upo front and a Cherokee 97 rear axle. The canyons are an hours' drive for me.

Bolt the one you have painted, on and see if it clears. The caliper will be the issue, if any. if the Volare ever came standard with 14"s, it'll probably fit.

do you have the Volare rotor on hand or is this a question prior to the purchase of the rotor for possible disc brake upgrade????

I ask this for I have both a '79 Volare here at the house and a set of the Canyon wheels..however the other wheels I cannot make a direct measurement/fit for...I assure you that the Canyon will not fit the front rotors of a early Dakota..and would pretty much guess the same for Volare...I would be pleasantly surprised if they did..my Canyon wheels have been machined to alow fit to the rotors and accept a spinner stand/center cap of the Torq-thrust style wheels..

Paul;

I am curious........did your stock wheels fit alright?

If you change wheel size and type......you may be letting yourself in for a fair bit of fuss to get this to fit up properly. Charlies kit calls for a GM caliper. Getting my stock 15" 3/4 ton wheels to fit up front required a 1" thick spacer/adapter. I rather doubt 14" wheels would make for anything other than trouble. But of course I could be wrong. :confused:

Yes, Charlie's kit calls for a GM caliper and a Volare rotor. I have on what he called for. Yes the OE 16" rims worked fine. I snugged up my wrangler rim on the spindle and have a 5/16" gap. I suppose a spacer would work. That would mean the studs then will be 5/16" short. Will that be a problem. I could put the rotors in a lathe, is such recommended or discouraged. The Cherokee wheels are 15" not 14".

Hi Paul;

Yes that is what I thought.

I wouldn't mess about with the rotor diameter.

You can fit a 1/2" spacer easy enough.......and pressing in longer studs is not a big deal either......but it all starts adding up.

I had to go through all this to get my original 15" wheels to fit....because that is the look I like.

Well, well, well! So put in a 1/2" space and longer lugs. OK, I did that to my sons 55 Chevy last summer, so no problem there. BUT the rear rims are already 1/2" narrower than the front which means I need a 1" Spacer back there. I should have stayed with my "Radio Flyer".

After more consideration, the alloy wheels are nixed. When it starts getting really technical then I know I'm in over my shoulders. So steell rims will be the choice. Even then, since I have disc calipers up front, those rims must account for them. It's been an interesing discussion. All these little things makes one truly appreciate someone who has put an old truck back on the road.

Looking for rims. Those who have Charlie's disc setup, what rims did you use which did not require spacers? I'm going to go with any stock rim that will take a moon type cap and luxury rings. If my Dodge caps work even better.
