Robin (UK) Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 Guys, I came across these pictures on the web. Hadn't seen them before, so thought I'd share them. All the best. Robin. Quote
vanbuskirk Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 There are 3 different wheel trims in these 3 pictures. Can someone inform me about the stainless trim rings? Bob Quote
claybill Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 your eyes are better than mine.... my p12 1941 came stock with 'inner' trim rings..around the hubcap..these were 2 options smooth and rippled.... hubcaps came in 2 sizes 9in? and 10in.? (not too sure of dimensions) and a wheel to match. then there were the outside 'beauty rings' in smooth finish and probably also in rippled finished..l. bill Quote
47heaven Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 Interesting...the club coupe only has one fender guard on the back bumper. I've never seen that before. Quote

Young Ed Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 The convert looks like it only has 1 in the back too. Weird looking! My coupe had 3 in the front and 2 in the back. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 The 10 inch models were used with the full size trim ring and covered their open center for a full dish look. Both 9 and 10 caps shared the same inside opening of approx 7 1/4 inch. I think the 9 inch caps were used with the thin trim ring and also for plain body painted wheels. Ed..did you ever mount your trim rings...spring is here ole man... Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 Actually, bumper guards were optional back then. Probably only added one for the show room demo and sold the car with the extra cost added or included. I have an invoice for my coupe that shows the original buyer bought the guards extra. Quote
Young Ed Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 On a special deluxe one end was standard. I believe it was the front. Norm does yours show 4 or 2 extra purchased? Also the small caps were for deluxe cars and the big ones for special. And yes both the 9 and 10 inch ones fit both wheels. I have 9s on my 16s on the pickup. Tim I just thought about them last night and didn't get to it. I've got to wash all the country road dirt off from the trip home before I can mount them. No sense in trapping all that in the wheel. BobT-47P15 Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 It seems that the wide white metal trim rings were supplied by the factory, on a P15, based on pictures seen in the past. (Like on the wagon pictured) It would appear, from these photos, that they also supplied the narrow stainless rings....on convert and car behind it. Not sure if they actually furnished the wide, full type stainless disc. I think I read where you got the front two bumper guards with the car, but had to buy rear ones extra. Ad of P15 with white rings. I think this is a 1948 ad, showing the narrow stainless rings. A cool old Plymouth uniform patch. Another service patch. MoPar parts sign. Quote
David Maxwell Posted May 11, 2007 Report Posted May 11, 2007 ...but in it, there is every conceivable combination of trim rings, bumper guards etc. It's correct that 9" were for Deluxe and 10" for Special Deluxe. The photo is really interesting because it shows a whole bunch of P15s lined up to be loaded on delivery trucks. Probably more than 50 cars in the photo. You see some with no bumper guards, some with 1, some with two, some with three. Of course you're only looking at the front end in the photo. Quote
bob_amos Posted May 11, 2007 Report Posted May 11, 2007 Love the patches. David Maxwell reproduced an old Plymouth Flag patch a few years ago. Real nice patch. You guys might want to see if he still has any left. They look great on the back of a shop coat. Quote
