New upholstered seats for Cowdodge!

Well the car show season is over with for me and I'm about ready to take out the front and rear seats and have them reupholstered in the old style just like when my Dodge first came out. We have a trade school up here that does this work and they really do great work! It should cost about 350 dollars and that is a deal. It will be nice to have the original mohair upholstery once again as I have tried to keep the cowdodge up to looking like she once did.:) Jon

Just wondering can you still buy fabric that looks like the old interior.

you confuse me Jon...first thread..going to get it done at the trade school in original mohair for 350.00 as in the wheels are set in motion and the trigger pulled on the funds..next you asking if you can get the material...so which is the cart...and which is the horse here..

IF you go in original fabric I can tell you it will not be cheap finding original patterns...sometimes you can find enough remenant of a suitable substitute to do the job..next question is..have you checked to see if the shop can work the material you choose..some is suitable and some is not...AND in suitable subs..width makes waste somethimes as the stock is usually 54 wide and not 60..yes that little bit makes all the difference in the world..

Walmart has "micromink" you may be interested in.

Check in the blanket section.

I use a microfiber blanket for a headliner in my 38 Coupe, looks very nice.

some of the microfibers are great..you have microplush which is a very soft vevet like cloth and then you have microsuede..a very nice faux leather with a nice feel..however it is a directional fabric and show the direction of the grain as it is disturbed..

tweeds are great for seats..available in many colors and patterns and even look like some of the older interiors..some fabrics are not a very tight weave so a underliner may need be used if this fabric is selected...often as i stated earlier..if you are unsure check with the folks doing the work..they will give you the best list of material and fabric wight for each intended use...the fabric I selected for my headliner had to meet the proper thread count and have some stretch in all direction to help eliminate wrinkles on installation..it was not an expensive fabric but the shop stated it was excellent for the purpose....though Ihave not instlaled it yet..as always a bit behind in my wannas...but the visors they did for me show how the fabric looks...on sale with additional 40% off coupon..some 6.35 a yard..JoAnne Fabrics..they do have some real nice stuff..some to 60.00 a yard also...I think this matches my seats fairly well..

Well back to square one as I found out today that the trade school doesn't teach upholstery work anymore :( Oh well guess I will just stick with my five dollar seat covers for now and wait till I find someone who will give me a deal on upholstery work. Big car swap met coming up at the end of the month and maybe I might find someone there that does upholstery on the side. Guess there is not to much call for upholsterers in today world. :(

oh...there is a call and they answer with a pretty hefty price..do check some of yourlocal clubs and cruise ins..often you can inqure of the person who did X interior and get the name of a person who does a bit of side work at reasonable cost..but finding an inexpensive quote..hardly likely..middle range usually for private person to work it...couple days longer service but usually well worth the cost..but..do look at a few of his jobs..
