Hello,

I have recently become the owner of a 1947 Dodge Sedan. It belonged to a good friend of mine and has sat for ~15 years, but is in very decent shape overall.

I am in the process of trying to get it running again and am very happy to have found this forum. I want to try and keep it very close to original as there is only 1 piece of trim missing from the car (although I think there may be a new one hiding somewhere in his parent's attic, with the original wheels :D )

Future plans include a front disk brake conversion, visor and of course body repair and new paint.

Any problem areas that I may need to really concentrate on ? Also, the driver's side front door latch isn't working properly and will not hold the door closed as the spring on the striker appears to have broken. Is this repairable (didn't see any matching topics on search) or does it need to just be replaced ?

Thanks in advance for all of your help.

-Ernie

Learn all you can about fluid drive. It a good system but a bit wierd. Make sure your parking brake works or you chock the wheels. Fluid drive cars have been known to wanter off if not properly restrained.

Thanks greg_g, I will keep them in mind for any engine needs.

And I really enjoyed looking through your photobucket album JIPJOBXX, you have some really valuable information there along with all the great pics.

Greg, Cypress is a suburb on the northwest side of Houston on US 290 and De leon is about 70 miles west of the junction if I 35W and I35E split above Hillsboro. Austin is 153 miles northwest of Cypress on US 290 and 138 miles south of Hillsboro on I 35 which makes a little more than 45 minutes away. Terrell Machine is located at De leon where Terrell the town is 33 miles east of Dallas on US 80. Until you live here you do not realize that it takes more than 45 minutes to get anywhere in Texas, just bragging.

Heck, Google maps shows it's only 260 miles between Cypress, TX and De Leon, TX. Just a little farther than Hershey, PA is from Syracuse, NY.

Reminds me of my freshman year in college in Upstate NY. All the people from the NYC/Long Island/Connecticut/NJ areas were making plans for getting together during the Christmas break. When I and a fellow from Houston, TX were asked if we planned on getting together we looked at them like they were nuts. Its a long way from Houston, TX to Tucson, AZ and most of it is getting across Texas.

I was having fun at Greg's expense. Most people who live in New York are asked at sometime if they know some person the that the one asking knows because they both live in New York City. I retired from the Texas DOT which has 18,000 employes and was always asked if I know someone who worked for Tex DOT, not likely.

Just like all those folks who think there is nothing north and west of NYC. When the rest of us wish the state ended at the northern rockland county line.

I just put Cyprus and Terrel into mapquest and thats what popped out.
