old-idaho-iron Posted March 7, 2012 Author Report Posted March 7, 2012 i need another project like i need another hole in my head, but i think this one will be fun,i love the lines of these old 3 windows.it's going to need new floors, and trunk floor. anyone have any idea if a 42 2 door sedan would have the same floor pans? i've never seen enuff of these 42's to tell. also looking for the 2 cowl pieces of beltline trim. and tailight bezels.if anyone has any extra let me know. BobT-47P15 Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 As you probably know, you can sometimes find useful parts on ebay..... occasionally at a reasonable price. But you have to keep watching on an ongoing basis. There is a pair of nice cowl trim stainless right now with an opening bid price of $150. But I imagine there have been or will be some at a lesser figure. Also a pair of tail lights, but look more like Plymouth......but I don't know what the Dodge ones looked like. I didn't look thru all items currently available......just noticed these couple of things. Good luck on the new project.....looks decent for starters. I just put in "1942 Dodge" as a search heading. Reg Evans Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 Yeah Bob, the tail lights on the bay must be for a Plymouth cause the Dodge ones are shaped like a parallelogram. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 5 foot 6 1/2 inches of trunk..gotta love the big butt Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 Here is one that a friend of mine has and its almost museum quality-Jon Quote
Robert Smith Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 My self, personally have always appreciated the Chrysler family's three window coupes. They have always struck me as having the nicest lines. The grill of the '42 Dodge is very unique, I prefer the '40 best but, it's kinda growing on me. That green three window coupe is a masterpiece of restoration. It is a true thing of beauty! What are your plans for this three window you picked up Old-Idaho-Iron? A 100% original restoration or another approach? Seeing that light green three-window above is inspiring! -=R Quote
old-idaho-iron Posted March 8, 2012 Author Report Posted March 8, 2012 as for where i'm going to go with the coupe, it will not be 100% original, been looking for something to drop my 392 hemi into!!! i had been putting together a 41 plymouth business coupe, when this old 3 window came along, so might be a little while before i do to much to it, other then gather up some of the missing pieces. isn't that how it always is, you get motivated to do something on 1 project, when another projects presents itself??at least thats how my scatter brained life seems to go!! lol Quote

Hi, I noted that you are in Eastern Idaho... I have a brother in I.F. I generally get up to Eastern Idaho about three times a year.. I know a guy in Eastern Montana that has several of the 'big butt' coupes.. I also seem to remember seeing one in the Rigby/Ririe area... Freeman's in White Fish MT has/had a lot of '40-48 model Mopars. I am not an authority on the '40 and later Mopars, however, I do believe that from the cowl/dash forward, all of the '42-48 Mopars shared the same trim... Generally speaking, your best bet for parts will be on eBay... I know a lot of people have big issues with eBay/PayPal, however, I am able to find parts for my projects at what I consider to be reasonable prices... My '39 Plym conv cpe is a perfect example of that.. Quote
old-idaho-iron Posted March 8, 2012 Author Report Posted March 8, 2012 blucarsdn. i am actually not far from I.F.just about 45 miles north of there. i've seen alot of freemans stuff on the bay,but have never purchased anything from him.as for your Plymouth, that sure is a sweet lookin car! i'm partial to any of the old mopars, as having a 40 Plymouth, a 41 Plymouth coupe, and now this dodge.have only gotten the 40 roadworthy as of late, been piecing together the 41,up until i acquired the dodge.. i'll have to research the trim on the post war mopars. i actually thought this dodge was missing most of the trim, when i first seen it, but had all but the two cowl pieces inside of it.got lucky on that one! since picking this old coupe up, I've been finding out that some 42 stuff is worth it's weight in gold. i know all of this is in the fact that the production of any 42's is few and in turn rare.but i'm hoping that even tho it being rare, there might not be a whole lot of people looking for 42 stuff? maybe then i can get some good deals on a few things? heres' to positive thinking!! thanks for all the info Quote
